The size of the African Fruit Beetle is true to proportion. I am working on a series of exaggerated children's expressions and my love of beetles.
Bugs are easy to draw and paint, however, for me, humans are extremely difficult to draw and paint. This struggle to capture what my eyes see and translate the ideal and image to paper is a challenge. I like to draw things that make me think about reality, that are beautiful, because beauty is medicine, and or make me laugh or go what?

Oh hoo... This baby expression is quite similarly to my baby, he is curious about all the little things around him. Your art is precious and worthfull as like you.
I would absolutely freak out if a giant beetle landed on my child's head...hahaha Thank you.
The expression of kid is very realistic, beetle is seems like from some science fiction movie!
Lol.... Are you saying you've seen non in your country? I am finding it quite hard to believe that.
This kind of beetle would have a difficult time finding enough fruit to grow to its huge size. In Africa, it is warm all the time and you drop and fruit seed on the ground it grows into a fruit tree in seconds (just kidding). We have lots of beetles but they are tiny compared to this giant.
The beetle is real; those African Fruit beetles are giants. I love the startled look on kids' faces. I will be creating more exaggerated facial expression pieces using beetles and kids later on this year.
Very cute blued eyed baby .. bug not so much :-)
That's the conflict I wanted to create, plus the nerdy weirdness of the picture, and it brings up conflicting emotions. The beetle eats fruit, not baby's heads. 😂😆
Nice drawing!! That beelte do look a bit big to me!!
The males can grow up to 4.3 inches long😁
This is incredible.
Thank you @monica-ene <3
Headcrab. :D
I know. I played too much Half-Life. :D
I need to look up Half-life 😋 thank you 😁
They do say that humans are hard to draw. Never had much luck. That is quite an image. I think I like the band better than the insect though. LOL thanks for your artistry and imagination.
The baby represents my feelings about a beetle landing on my head hahaha
Fantastic!!! This baby is simply fantastic and I love the expression on the face (I could have a similar expression with a big beetle on my head :D ).
Me too; I can imagine myself crying like a baby.
Wow.. This is quite slick and your outlines made it look somewhat digital. I guess I'll have to see more of your works from now on.
Thank you. I had to get this piece out in 24 hours. I wanted to keep some continuity with my other pieces in the Inktober series, so I outlined everything. I love the inktober challenges; it kicks my slacker habit in the butt!
That's nice. But what challenge are you talking about? Here in hive?
Just sitting down and working fast, it's hard to do, I like to take my time.
I don't understand. This doesn't answer my question right?
I love this.
Thank you I love drawing exaggerated expressions hahaha
