Homemade cat scratcher (goes wrong)

A veces en las cosas mas sencillas conseguimos retos demasiado grandes, hoy terminé con un dolor en la mano terrible y mucho estrés porque quise hacerle un rascador casero a mi gatito, ya que tiene mis muebles demasiado destruidos, es algo que debí hacer hace mucho tiempo pero siempre lo pospuse hasta que hoy por fin me anime a hacerlo, vi varios videos con diferentes diseños de rascadores para gatitos y elegí uno de los que más facil creía yo que seria, no podía estar mas equivocada, realmente fue difícil y no sabia la cantidad de cartón tan grande que iba a gastar.

Sometimes the simplest things can present us with enormous challenges. Today I ended up with terrible pain in my hand and a lot of stress because I wanted to make a homemade scratching post for my kitten, since my furniture is so badly damaged. It's something I should have done a long time ago, but I always put it off until today, when I finally decided to do it. I watched several videos with different designs for kitty scratching posts and chose one that I thought would be the easiest, I couldn't have been more wrong. It was really difficult, and I didn't realize how much cardboard I would need.

MATERIALES

• Mucho, mucho, pero muchisimo cartón grueso

• Caja de zapatos

• Tijeras o cutter

• Regla (la cual nunca utilicé)

• Teipe grueso

MATERIALS

• Shoe box

• Scissors or craft knife

• Ruler (which I never used)

• Thick tape

Empecé muy entusiasmada creyendo en los videos que vi explicando cómo hacerlo, decían que eran super fáciles de hacer y que tomaba muy poco tiempo… MENTIRA. Aunque quizás tuve algo de culpa por que empecé cometiendo un gran error, quería que su rascador fuera bastante grande y yo misma hice una caja mas o menos del tamaño de su arenero, luego empecé a cortar tiras de cartón y rellenar la caja, había cortado muchísimas tiras y la caja no se llenaba, me estaba preocupando, pero decidí seguir.

I started out very enthusiastic, believing the videos I saw explaining how to do it, they said it was super easy to make and took very little time... LIE. Although I may have been partly to blame because I started off making a big mistake, I wanted his scratching post to be quite large, so I made a box about the size of his litter box. Then I started cutting strips of cardboard and filling the box, I had cut a lot of strips, but the box wasn't filling up. I was getting worried, but I decided to keep going.

Quiero que tengan en cuenta que el cartón que utilice para todo esto era una caja grande de aire acondicionado, ese aire acondicionado es de ventana y es ENORME, por lo tanto, estaba muy segura que era suficiente cartón para hacer el rascador, pero ya había gastado la mitad de la caja y ni siquiera había llenado la mitad del rascador… cuando acabe con el resto de cartón que quedaba llene el rascador un poco mas de la mitad, entonces tuve que cambiar mis planes, asi que decidí volver la caja que había hecho yo más pequeña y lo más impresionante es que aun asi no pude llenarla por completo y fue entonces que busque una caja de zapatos por toda mi casa hasta que por fin logre conseguir una, al ser más pequeña que las dos cajas anteriores tenia la esperanza de que por fin podría hacer el rascador perfecto para mi gato, saque todas las tiras de cartón y las fui colocando dentro de la caja de zapatos.

I want you to keep in mind that the cardboard I used for all this was a large air conditioning box, that air conditioner is a window unit and it's HUGE, so I was sure there was enough cardboard to make the scratching post, but I had already used up half the box and hadn't even filled half the scratching post... when I finished with the rest of the cardboard that was left, I filled the scratching post a little more than halfway, so I had to change my plans. I decided to make the box I had made smaller, and the most impressive thing is that even then I couldn't fill it completely, That's when I searched my whole house for a shoe box until I finally found one. Since it was smaller than the two previous boxes, I hoped that I could finally make the perfect scratching post for my cat. I took out all the cardboard strips and placed them inside the shoe box.

Luego de todo el desastre logre rellenar por completo la caja de zapatos y quedo bastante bien, pero me dolió muchísimo la mano por cortar ese cartón tan grueso con tijeras, pero a pesar de todo estaba contenta y esperanzada de que a mi gatito Tommy le iba a encantar su nuevo juguete.

After all the mess, I managed to fill the shoebox completely and it turned out pretty well, but my hand hurt a lot from cutting such thick cardboard with scissors. Despite everything, I was happy and hopeful that my kitten Tommy would love his new toy.

Y tanto esfuerzo para nada, por que Tommy llego a oler su rascador y luego me lanzo una mirada que me hizo reír demasiado, literalmente su cara era como diciendo: ¿Qué es esta porquería? JAJAJA Y SE FUE DEJANDOME A MI SOLA Y AL RASCADERO, quizás deba darle tiempo pero sinceramente dudo mucho que lo use, yo conozco a Tommy y el es un gato muy raro jajaja.

And all that effort for nothing, because Tommy came over to sniff his scratching post and then gave me a look that made me laugh so hard. His face was literally saying, “What is this crap?” HAHAHA AND HE WALKED AWAY, LEAVING ME ALONE WITH THE SCRATCHING POST, maybe I should give him some time, but honestly, I highly doubt he'll use it. I know Tommy, and he's a very strange cat hahaha.

jajajajaja entré literalmente a tu post por la cara de Tommy XD tal vez podrías agarrarle las patitas y enceñarle que es un rascador. Ese Tommy es todo un personaje que me robó el corazón con sus gestos y poses, gracias por compartir esta grandiosa idea!
