There are different types of skirt that are mostly worn by women usually made from different types of fabrics, recently I have shared in my blog on how to make six pieces skirt with elastic waist band, I have decided to share the cutting and sewing process of some of these types of skirt and I'm sure you will like and find the process very easy to follow.

I was contracted to make same outfit for the celebration of the women choir anniversary in our church and each women gave their preference on how they want their skirt to look like, some prefer theirs to be six pieces skirt, some also prefer a straight line skirt with elastic waist band just like this one I'm about to share while others want a straight line skirt with zipper at the back, all these we be made and share in my subsequent post.

Join me in the cutting and sewing process below

I have my fabric folded in two with the hip measurement divide by 4 plus 2" for the seam allowance, then I marked the waist measurement as the hip measurement, since I will be adding elastic band to the waist line, I added 3" to the top of the skirt to fold in the elastic band then I took the full length measurement of the skirt and it was cut out

The front was placed on another folded fabric and placed on it to cut out the back pattern of the skirt, at the waist line, I added 1.5 at the hip, I added 2.5 for the butt to sit well then it was curved down to the slit where I measured 22" from the hem upward. It was placed on a lining and I cut out same shape with the lining shorter than the fabric with 3" for the hemming.

The lining was used to turn the main fabric for neat finishing from the hem to the top of the skirt, I sew in a basic dart at the back while the front and back were then sewn together

I cut out 2 pieces of elastic band measuring 1 x 7"

I marked the dart leg for the front and back then the elastic band was placed 2" below the waist line at one dart leg to the other.

The tip of the waist line was folded in and was sewn round. As simple as that, the skirt is ready with the elastic waist band neatly sewn.

This is the final and beautiful outcome of the skirt I made, I hope you like the beautiful outcome.
