Hello dear friends of Hive Diy, I hope you are all doing well. I'm here to share with you this April's initiative, which is all about the zodiac signs. According to the astrological clock, we have entered the sign of Aries, which has many representations and meanings. I am passionate about symbols; I like them all, whether they are brands, religious symbols, or icons of any kind. For me, symbols are mysteries to be solved. Beyond what is always said about the zodiac, I was able to read that the sign of Aries is interpreted as willpower, the unwavering determination to pursue one's desires and intentions. It is the ability to overcome initial obstacles with courage and conviction. And the truth is, I like that meaning. I am not an Aries, but my mother is, so I see many of those characteristics in her. And with this in mind, I have made a necklace carved in wood with the symbol of the ram, from which its enormous horns stand out. I have made it in pine wood that is a little aged but I was able to give it a very good cleaning and finish. I hope you like it.
Hola queridos amigos de Hive Diy, espero que todos se encuentren muy bien, yo estoy por aquí para compartir con ustedes en la iniciativa de este mes de abril que trata de los signos del zodiaco, según el reloj astrológico hemos entrado en el signo de Aries el cual tiene muchas representaciones y significados. Yo soy un apasionado por los símbolos, todos me gustan, ya sean marcas, religiosos o íconos de cualquier índole, los símbolos para mi son misterios a resolver, más allá de lo que siempre se dice acerca del zodiaco pude leer que el signo Aries es interpretado como la fuerza de voluntad, la determinación inquebrantable para perseguir los propios deseos e intenciones. Es la capacidad de superar obstáculos iniciales con coraje y convicción. Y la verdad que me gusta ese significado, yo no soy del signo Aries, pero mi madre si lo es, así que veo muchas de esas características en ella. Y teniendo esto en mente he realizado un collar tallado en madera con el símbolo del carnero, el cual sobresalen sus enormes cuernos, lo he realizado en madera de Pino que esta un poco envejecida pero pude darle muy buena limpieza y acabado, espero que les guste.

As I mentioned earlier, I used pine wood from some old, disassembled furniture. The wood was deteriorated in some places, but I used the best-preserved parts. I cut a piece 4 centimeters long by 2.5 centimeters high. It was too thick, so I cut it 8 millimeters so the piece wouldn't be too wide. After doing that, I drew the ram on one of the cleanest sides and then began to shape it with a knife.
Como había contado anteriormente utilicé madera de pino de algunos viejos muebles desarmados, en algunas partes la madera estaba deteriorada peor utilicé aquellas partes que estaban mejor conservadas. Corté una pieza de 4 centímetros de largo por 2,5 centímetros de alto, el grosor era mucho así que lo corte de 8 milímetros para que la pieza no quedara muy ancha. Luego de hacer eso hice el dibujo del carnero por uno de los lados mas limpios para luego comenzar a darle forma con una navaja.

To carve the edges of the piece, I used a box cutter, whose blade I replaced because the old one was dull. So, very carefully, I cut the wood, starting at the top of the horns to shape them. As I removed the wood, you can see how the piece was shaping up, like an open book.
Para tallar la pieza por los bordes utilizo un cúter, al cual le cambié la hoja porque la anterior ya no tenía filo. Así que con mucho cuidado fui cortando la mader,a comencé por la parte superior de los cuernos para darle forma, al ir quitando la madera pueden notar como iba quedando la pieza, como un libro abierto.

I did the same process on the lower part of the piece, specifically to give the horns more shape. The Aries logo I chose is a minimalist style because there are others that are a little more elaborate, but this one is beautiful due to its simplicity.
El mismo proceso hice en la parte inferior de la pieza, especialmente para darle una mayor forma a los cuernos. El logo que elegí de Aries es uno de etsilo minimalista, porque existen otros un poco más elaborados, sin embargo este hermoso por la simpleza de su diseño.

The second part of the process, so to speak, is shaping or carving the horns. At this point, it's no longer necessary to continue with the box cutter, so I switch to the gouges. Their tips are smaller, sharper, and more precise for small cuts. You can see how I gradually carve the horns until they're complete.
La segunda parte del proceso por así decirlo es moldear o tallar los cuernos, aquí ya es inutil continuar con el cúter así que cambio a las gubias, sus puntas son más pequeñas, afiladas y con más precisión para cortes pequeños. Pueden observar como poco a poco voy tallando los cuernos hasta quedar completados.

After having carved the entire piece, it was time to sand the entire piece until it was clean and gave it a finer and more finished finish. After sanding it very well and polishing it, I gave it two coats of glossy varnish so that the pine wood would be more beautiful and shiny. Finally, I put a pendant on it and it was ready.
Luego de haber tallado toda la peiza le tocaba lijar toda la pieza hasta limpiearla y darle un acabado más fino y acabado, después de lijarla muy bien y pulirla le di dos baños de barniz brillante para que la madera de pino quedara más bonita y brillante, por último le puse un colgante y quedó lista.
What did you think of the result? The pine is beautiful after applying varnish, and of course the piece is very clean. Another meaning I was able to interpret was that Aries is associated with the element of fire in its purest and most elemental form: untamed energy, fiery passion, contagious enthusiasm. It's the life force that drives action, so the ram with those enormous horns demonstrates that indomitable, free, and creative nature, undoubtedly a wonderful sign, which has inspired me greatly. Que les ha parecido el resultado? El pino es hermoso luego de aplicarle barniz, y por supuesto que la pieza quede muy limpia. Otro de los significados que pude interpretar fue que Aries está asociado con el elemento fuego en su forma más pura y elemental: la energía sin domesticar, la pasión ardiente, el entusiasmo contagioso. Es la fuerza vital que impulsa a la acción, así que el carnero con esos enormes cuernos demuestra esa naturaleza indomable libre y creadora, sin duda un signo maravillo, el cual me ha inspirado mucho. Espero que les haya gustado el resultado de como quedó, me divertí mucho y a parte aprendí también un poco más de cosas que desconocía, de eso se tratan los símbolos, son pedazos vivos de nuestra realidad, y tenemos que vivirlos.
