Hello dear friends of Hive DIY, I hope you are all doing well. Today, Monday, at the start of this week, I want to share with you a new drawing using one of my favorite techniques because I consider it very therapeutic for motor skills. For this drawing, I chose the rapper and film actor Ice Cube, a West Coast rap legend who has left his mark on Hip Hop culture. In his early days, he was part of the supergroup N.W.A. along with Dr. Dre and other stars. I created this portrait using the doodling technique, which consists of making loose lines without lifting the pencil for too long. I first made a sketch with a charcoal pencil and then used an ink pen. The paper wasn't anything special; I simply took a receipt I found in good condition and used it as the background. Here's a brief explanation of how I did it, and I've also included a short video so you can enjoy and appreciate the technique. Let's begin!
Hola queridos amigos de Hive Diy, espero que todos se encuentren muy bien, hoy día lunes en este comienzo de semana quiero compartir con ustedes un nuevo dibujo utilizando una de las técnicas que más me gusta porque la considero muy terapeútica a nivel motriz. Para hablarles acerca de este dibujo, he escogido al cantante de rap y actor de cine Ice Cube, una leyenda del rap de la costa Oeste de E.E.U.U que ha dejado una huella en la cultura Hip Hop, en sus inicios formó parte junto a Doctor Dre y otras estrellas del súper grupo N.W.A. He realizado este retrato utilizando la técnica de los garabatos, el cual consiste en hacer lineas sueltas sin soltar el lápiz por mucho tiempo, hice un boceto primero con un lápiz de carbón y después utilicé un bolígrafo de tinta. El papel para hacerlo no fue la gran cosa, simplemente tomé un recibo de compra que me encontré en buen estado y lo utilicé para que fuera el fondo. Although I find it fun to use these receipt papers, it's not so easy. The paper is the most ordinary kind available, so there's not much you can do with it, which is why ink is the best option. I think the paper's texture is made just for ink. The problem is that you can't erase it because the paper risks smudging, so I use a pencil with a very fine, light-colored tip to make the sketch, which, like the drawing itself, is made up of simple lines that will later be filled in with a pen.
Aunque para mi es divertido utilizar estos papeles de recibo, no es tan fácil, el papel es el más corriente que existe, así que no se puede hacer mucho por lo que la tinta es la mejor opción, creo que la textura del papel está hecha solamente para la tinta. El problema es que no se puede borrar, porque el papel corre el riesgo de mancharse, así que utilizo un lápiz que tenga la punta muy fina y a la vez clara para poder hacer el boceto, que al igual que el dibujo en sí, esta hecho de simples líneas que luego serán rellenadas con el bolígrafo.

Once I made the first scribbled strokes, I placed them in the center of the face; this will be my starting point for the nose and eyes. After that, I do some initial tests with the pen, so I can see how the drawing will turn out. Here, you can choose whether the scribbles are large or small, and you can also add shading with the ink. By not pressing too hard with the pen tip, the ink flows less, resulting in thinner lines.
Una vez que hice los primeros trazos con garabatos, los hice en el centro del rostro, será mi punto de partida como nariz y los ojos, una vez hecho lo que hago es hacer las primeras pruebas con el bolígrafo, así voy viendo de que forma me va a salir el dibujo. Aquí uno puede elegir si los garabatos se puedne hacer grandes o simplemente pequeños, también se puede sombrear con la tinta, sin afincar mucho la punta del bolígrafo la tinta sale poco por lo que las líneas quedan más delgadas.

Then I simply covered the edges of the face with a pencil, giving it a first shape; however, the final shape, which I am fixing with the strokes of the pen, I am making more exact, of course, without seeking realism, but preserving the proportions of the face so that it does not look deformed.
Luego fui cubriendo los bordes del rostro simplemente con lápiz, le fui dando una primera forma, sin embargo la forma final, la que voy arreglando con los trazos del bolígrafo, lo voy haciendo más exacto, claro, sin buscar el realismo, pero si conservando las proporciones del rostro para que no se vea deforme.

Next, using the pen, I draw the upper part of the face. Ices Cube's expression is always one of being annoyed, even when he isn't, but his brow is always furrowed, so I do this detail to the letter, with a lot of shadow and ink so that it is very well defined.
Seguidamente con el bolígrafo voy haciendo la parte superior del rostro, la experesión de Ices Cube es de siempre estar molesto, aunque no lo esté, pero su ceño siempre esta fruncido así que este detalle lo hago al pie de la letra, con mucha sombra y tinta para que quede muy bien marcado.

Then I added details like the beard and lips. This is where the strokes became more concentrated. As I mentioned earlier about pressing the pen tip, I pressed harder here to create the entire beard area. I also pressed harder at the top to create the shading of the hair and the cap, since Ice Cube wears a cap. The final part involved more lines to create the other side of the cap, and that's how it was finished.
Luego fui haciendo detalles como la barba y los labios, aquí fue la parte donde los trazos se concentraron más, así como hablaba al principio de presionar la punta del bolígrafo, aquí lo hice con más fuerza para hacer toda la zona de la barba. Así también en la parte superior para hacer la parte de la sombra del cabello y de la gorra, ya que Ice Cube lleva una gorra, y la última parte fueron líneas en mejor cantidad para hacer la otra parte de la gorra, y así quedó finalizado.
What do you think of the result? When you zoom in with the phone camera, the strokes are very clear. As I mentioned before, I really enjoy this technique because it helps me maintain hand mobility in any direction, and it's useful when I paint with a brush or colored pencils. ¿Qué les ha parecido el resultado? al acercarse mucho con la cámara del telefono los trazos se aprecian muy bien, como dije antes disfruto mucho esta técnica porque me ayuda a mantener la movilidad de mi mano en cualquier dirección, y me sirve cuando pinto con pincel o con lápices de colores. Espero que les haya gustado, lo hice con mucho gusto, me despido hasta una próxima oportunidad.
