Hello dear friends, I hope you are all doing well. I've been wanting to share something with you for days, but the power rationing in Venezuela is worse than in recent years. Now they cut off the electricity for up to six hours at a time, and when I get home from work, I always find the power is out. So, I wanted to take this opportunity to share a drawing I made of the moon. I've been following NASA's Artemis II lunar mission closely, a mission that has taken humans back to the moon after more than 50 years. Now we've been able to see clearer photos of the far side of the moon, as well as a better view of our planet. I made this drawing based on the images that show the moon's colors, and it's simply beautiful. I hope you like it.
Hola queridos amigos, espero que se encuentren muy bien, tenía días queriendo compartir con ustedes pero el racionamiento de luz en Venezuela está peor que en los últimos años, ahora quitan la luz hasta por 6 horas y cuando llego a mi casa luego de haber trabajado siempre encuentro que la luz ya no está. Por eso, en esta oportunidad quiero aprovechar este breve momento para compartir con ustedes un dibujo que hice de la luna, he estado muy pendiente de la misión lunar Artemis II de la NASA, una misión que ha llevado al hombre a la luna luego de más de 50 años, ahora hemos podido apreciar fotos más nítidas del lado oculto de la luna así como una mejor vista de nuestro planeta. He realizado este dibujo basándome en las imágenes que muestran los colores se la luna y es sencillamente hermoso, espero que les guste.

This drawing was truly special. If there was one where black would make a good background, it would be for the moon. So I drew a circle and started painting from one of its edges. As you can see, I painted irregularly to accurately depict the moon's cratered surface. Right from the start, you can see it as if the moon were rising; it was amazing while I was drawing it.
Este dibujo si que fue especial, si había uno donde el color negro sería un buen fondo, sería para dibujar la luna. Así que hago un círculo y comienzo a pintar desde uno de sus bordes, como pueden observar, voy pintando de manera irregular para poder hacer bien la superficie llena de cráteres que posee la luna. Aquí solamente al comenzar se puede ver como si la luna estuviera saliendo, fue algo asombroso mientras lo dibujaba.

Next, I paint the lower part, specifically where the large crater is located. It's so big that the distance it covers upon impact is immense. At this point, if I left the drawing here, it would look great, thanks to the effect the black cardstock helps to create with the white charcoal pencil.
Seguidamente voy pintando por la parte inferior, específicamente donde está ubicado el gran crater, es tan grande que las distancia que cubre en su impacto son inmensas. Hasta este punto, si dejara el dibujo aquí se vería genial, por el efecto que la cartulina de color negro ayuda a lograr con el lápiz de carboncillo blanco.

Then I work my way up the moon until I can paint most of the upper side; here you could say the moon is almost full. You can see that depending on the pressure I apply with the paint on the paper, the effect is different. That's how I do it, leaving space so the moon's craters are visible.
Después voy subiendo por la luna hasta poder pintar la mayor parte del lado superior, aquí se podría decir que la luna está casi llena. Pueden observar que dependiendo de la presión que haga con el color sobre la hoja el efecto es diferente, así es como voy haciendo y dejando el espacio para que se vean los cráteres de la luna.

Now, in the next step, I begin adding contrast to the colors. New NASA photos have revealed that the lunar surface contains certain minerals that give it the beautiful tones seen in the photographs. So, following that color scheme, I first apply turquoise blue to certain areas of the drawing.
Ahora en el siguiente paso comienzo agregar contraste en los colores, en las nuevas fotos de la NASA se ha determinado que a través de los colores visibles la superficie lunar tiene ciertos minerales que le dan esos tonos tan hermosos que se pueden apreciar en las fotografías. Así que siguiendo esa tonalidad voy aplicando en primer lugar el color azul turquesa en ciertas regiones del dibujo.

After adding the blue tones, I begin adding shades of orange, brown, and ochre. With this combination, I try to get closer to the tone seen in the Lanasa photographs. Finally, I retouch all the white areas, and that's the finished product.
Después de agregar los tonos azules comienzo a agregar tonos de color naranja, café y ocre, con esta combinanción trato de acercarme un poco a la tonalidad que puede apreciarse en las fotografías de lanasa. Por último vuelvo a retocar todas las partes que van de blanco y así ha quedado finalizado.
What did you think of the ending? It's amazing what science has achieved, especially when used for good, and it's ironic that while one part of humanity progresses, the vast majority wastes time on wars and death. This drawing made me reflect on all the things that human beings can achieve. Someone imagined the journey to the moon, and now it's a reality again. I hope someone imagines true peace so that we can all build it together. For now, I'll say goodbye, and until next time.
¿Qué les ha parecido el final? es maravilloso lo que la ciencia ha logrado, especialmente cuando se usa para el bien, y es irónico que mientras una parte de la humanidad avanza, otra grna mayoría de ella pierde el tiempo en guerras y muerte. Este dibujo me ha hecho reflexionar sobre todas aquellas cosas que los seres humanos podemos lograr, alguien imaginó el viaje a la luna y ahora vuelve a ser una realidad. Espero que alguien imagine una paz verdadera y así podamos construirla entre todos. Por ahora me despido y será hasta una próxima oportunidad.
