Hello dear friends, I hope you are all doing well. The Gospels tell the story of Jesus, who was crucified and buried on Friday, spent all of Saturday in the tomb, and then rose again. This week, which I've used for reflection, I've also created a portrait of Jesus that commemorates his most difficult moment. In the midst of so much suffering, he raised his eyes to heaven and cried out in despair, "My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?" We have all experienced similar situations at some point, where we've felt that all is lost and there's no turning back. However, there is always something more ahead, a reward for those who persevere to the end. This is how I interpret the figure of Jesus in his final moments, which is why I created this portrait where he is wearing the crown of thorns, a symbol of shame and pain. I hope you like the result.
Hola queridos amigos, espero que se encuentren muy bien, cuenta la historia de Jesús en los evangelios que el día viernes fue crucificado y enterrado, pasó todo el día sábado en el sepulcro y luego volvió a la vida. En esta semana que he aprovechado para reflexionar, he realizado también un dibujo retrato de Jesús que recuerda su momento más difícil, en medio de tanto sufrimiento elevó su mirada al cielo y clamó con desesperación: "Dios mío Dios mío ¿Por qué me has abandonado?". Alguna vez todos hemos pasado por una situación similar, donde hemos sentido que todo está perdido y no hay vuelta atrás, sin embargo siempre queda algo más adelante, la recompensa para el que persevera hasta el final. Así interpreto yo la figura de Jesús en sus últimos momentos, es por eso que he realizado este retrato donde sale luciendo la corona de espinas, símbolo de afrenta y dolor. Espero que les guste el resultado.

I bought a black cardstock drawing pad, and I was also able to buy a white charcoal pencil. This time I bought it from a more affordable brand, and I've found it to be very good quality. So I started my drawing by recreating the face using only guide lines. I began the sketch from the nose as my starting point and from there I added the rest of the details until I had it complete.
Compre un block para dibujar de cartulina negra, y también pude comprar un lápiz carboncillo de color blanco, esta vez lo compre de una marca más accesible y he comprobado que es de muy buena calidad. Así que comencé mi dibujo recreando el rostro solamente con líneas guías, así el boceto del rostro lo comencé desde la nariz como mi punto de partida y de ahí fui agregando el resto de detalles hasta tenerlo por completo.

After sketching the face, I begin to add volume. Here, I mix regular white wax crayon with charcoal, which is more intense. For the areas of skin that don't require much highlighting, I use the white wax crayon, and then for the more illuminated areas, I use charcoal. Alternating between the two colors, I begin to shape the skin of the face.
Luego de hacer el boceto del rostro comienzo a darle volumen, aquí hago una mezcla entre el color blanco normal de cera y el carboncillo, el cual es más intenso. Para las partes de la piel que no requiera mucha iluminación utilizo el lápiz blanco de cera, luego para las partes más iluminadas utilizo el carboncillo, alternando entre un color y otro comienzo a darle forma a la piel del rostro.

Next, I started painting the top of the head. It's in this part that I began shaping the eyes, which express that look of profound despair for the dead woman. To give the background more darkness, I used black charcoal; for example, I made the shading around her most expressive eye deeper.
Seguidament e voy pintante la parte superior de la cabeza, es en esta parte donde le voy dando forma a sus ojos los cuales expresan esa mirada de profunda desesperación por la muerta. Para darle mayó oscuridad al fondo lo que hice fue utilizar carboncillo de color negro, así por ejemplo el sombreado alrededor de su ojo más expresivo lo hice más profundo.

I continued the process of creating the volume of the skin on the face. As you can see, the face is already taking shape. For the areas of skin that disappear in the light, I used a white wax pencil. Then I drew Jesus's beard, trying to make it as realistic as possible, as well as adding some drops of sweat and blood.
Continúo con el proceso de crear el volumen de la piel en el rostro, como pueden ver ya el rostro va tomando la forma, para la parte de la piel que va desapareciendo ante la luz utilizo el lápiz blanco de cera. Luego fui haciendo la barba de Jesús, traté de hacerla lo más realista posible, así como también algunas gotas de sudor y sangre.

Finally, I added the hair and the terrifying crown of thorns that was placed on his head to shame him. Little by little, I painted the drops covering his face, including the blood. To make the drops stand out more, I used acrylic paint, and that's how it was finished.
Por último fui agregando el cabello y la aterradora corona de espina que fue puesta en su cabeza para avergonzarlo. Poco a poco hice las gotas que cubrian el rsotro ingluyendo la sangre. Para resaltar las gotas mejor, las hice con pintura acrílica y así quedó finalizado.
What did you think of the result? I know there's no exact record about Jesus; many say he was an invention of the church, others say his story was manipulated. Whether that's true or not, what is certain is that he changed lives with just one phrase: Love your neighbor as yourself. He took his ideas to their ultimate consequences, and I think we should reflect on the simplicity of his message. It costs nothing to be empathetic with those around us; our world would be a better place. For now, that's all, and I'll say goodbye until next time.
¿Qué les ha parecido el resultado? sé que no existe registro exacto acerca de Jesus, muchos dicen que fue una invención de la iglesia, otros dicen que su historia fue manipulada, sea cierto o no lo que si es seguro es que ha cambiado vidas simplemente con una frase: Ama a tu prójimo como a ti mismo. Sus ideas lo llevaron hasta las última consecuencias y creo que hay que pensar en la sencillez de su mensaje, nada cuesta ser empáticos con quienes nos rodean, nuestro mundo sería mejor. Por ahora esto ha sido todo y me despido hasta una próxima oportunidad.
