Hello dear friends of Hive DIY, I hope you're all doing well and having a great weekend. Today I'm bringing you a drawing dedicated to great movies. I'd given the newer films a chance to catch up a bit, and unsurprisingly, they were all worse than the last. So, to cleanse my eyes, I watched Scarface, the epic tale of drug lord Tony Montana. It needs no introduction because it remains a classic to this day. I've created a portrait of Al Pacino as the Cuban Tony Montana. His performance is incredible, especially when compared to his role as Michael Corleone in The Godfather—completely different. The portrait is done with white charcoal on black cardstock. Here are the step-by-step instructions and a short video for you to enjoy.
Hola queridos amigos de Hive Diy, espero que se encuentren muy y estén pasando un buen fin de semana. hoy les traigo un dibujo dedicado al buen cine, hace tiempo había dado chance a las nuevas películas para actualizarme un poco, y sin sorpresa una peor que la otra. Así que para desintoxicar mis ojos vi Scarface, la épica del señor de las drogas Tony Montana, no tiene necesidad de que yo lo presente porque hasta el sol de hoy sigue siendo un clásico. He realizado un retrato de Al Pacino como personificando al cubano Tony Montana, es increíble su actuación, especialmente si la comparamos con su papel de Michael Corleone en El Padrino, totalmente diferente. El retrato está hecho con carboncillo blanco sobre cartulina negra, aquí los dejo con el paso a paso y también con un video corto para que disfruten.

Here you can see how I'm gradually sketching Tony Montana's face, where each part of his face appears, like his eyes, nose, and mouth. I didn't make a preliminary sketch; instead, I gained confidence and started drawing directly. For these first steps, I began by making the lines with a white wax pencil.
Aquí pueden ver como poco a poco voy haciendo un boceto del rostro de Tony Montana, donde van apareciendo cada parte de su rostros, como ojos, nariz y boca. No hice un boceto para guiarme sino que tomé confianza y comencé a hacer el dibujo directamente. Para estos primeros pasos comencé haciendo los trazos con un lápiz blanco de cera.

Then I worked on part of the neck so it would be visible in the portrait, as well as part of the clothing she's wearing. Once that was done, I started using white charcoal. With this color, I filled in the skin of the face to give it volume, and although it might seem contradictory, I also used white to accentuate the shadows.
Luego fui haciendo parte del cuello para que se vea visible en el retrato, así como también parte del traje que tiene puesto. Una vez terminado este paso comienzo a utilizar el carboncillo blanco, con este color lo que hago es rellenar toda la piel del rostro para darle volumen, y aunque parezca algo contradictorio, utilizo el color blanco también para acentuar las sombras.

As I mentioned before, what I do with the white charcoal is give texture to the skin of the face. There will be areas where the skin will be more illuminated with stronger highlights, while other areas will be barely visible. So in that case, I adjust the pressure of the strokes, depending on the situation.
Como mencioné anteriormente, con el carboncillo de color blanco lo que hago es darle textura a la piel del rostro, habrá partes donde la piel estará más iluminada con los reflejos más fuertes, mientras que otras zonas se verá apenas poco. Así que en ese caso lo que hago es hacer el trazo con más fuerza o menos, todo depende de la situación.

I'm gradually shaping the face; here you can see the lines of expression a bit better, especially around the eyes, which are darkened by shadows above the eyelids. I'm also shaping the entire outline of the face to ensure the correct form.
Poco a poco voy dando forma al rostro, aquí se pueden apreciar un tanto mejor las líneas de expresión, especialmente en los ojos, los cuales en la parte superior a los párpados está oscurecido por las sombras. De la misma manera voy dando forma a todo el borde el rostro, para que la forma sea la correcta.

After finishing a first layer to cover the entire face, I apply a second layer of white using the same technique, but this time I focus on highlighting the areas where the light reflection is strongest, such as the center of the nose, the cheekbones, and the upper part of the forehead, before it is hidden by the hair.
Luego de haber terminado una primera capa para cubrir todo el rostro, lo que hago es pasar una segunda capa de color blanco con la misma técnica, pero esta vez me concentro en iluminar las partes donde el reflejo de luz es más fuerte, como el centro de la nariz, los pómulos y la parte superior de la frente, antes de ser ocultada por el cabello.

Next, I begin painting the light reflections on the hair. I think this step greatly contributes to achieving that almost photographic realism. In this type of technique, the key is knowing how to play with light and shadow; both are your tools for making your drawing look its best. Finally, I draw the lit cigarette in her mouth and the smoke dissipating throughout the scene.
Seguidamente comienzo a pintar también los reflejos de luz encima del cabello, creo que este paso le ayuda mucho a dar ese realismo casi fotográfico, en este tipo de técnica lo importante es saber jugar con las luces y sombras, ambas son tus herramientas para hacer lucir mejor tu dibujo. Por último dibujo el cigarro encendido en su boca y el humo disipandose por todo el lugar.
What do you think of the result? It turned out so realistic I can almost hear him saying, "Say hello to my little friend!" Hehehe, without a doubt one of the worst characters Mr. Al Pacino has ever played. I really like this technique, drawing on black paper; it's like taking photographs. ¿Qué les ha parecido el resultado? quedón tan realista que puedo escuchar su frase "Dile hola a mi pequeño amigo! jejeje sin duda uno de los pejores personajes que ha interpretado el señor Al Pacino. Esta técnica me gusta mucho, dibujar en papel de color negro, es como hacer fotografía. Espero que les haya gustado como quedó, por ahora me despido y será hasta pronto.
