In some other occasion I have told you that I love Pokemon. Honestly I like Digimon more, but Pokemon is also one of my favorite franchises because of the great amount of characters it has. Well, I recently made a plasticine bulbasaur, so I said to myself "Why don't you draw one and see how it looks like?"
Well, I got to work and this is what came out, a drawing I titled Sad Cubone. I hope you like it.
Why Cubone? You've probably heard a certain sad story about this Cubone. They say it was a baby pokemon whose mother died and that the skull on its head is its mother's. But what pokemon is it?
Some say it could be a baby charmander, because the skull it wears is similar to that of a charizar; others say it is a kangaskhan pup, which could be true because the shape of the little cubone is so similar to that of a kangaskhan.
Be that as it may, no case is confirmed, at least as far as I know. The point is that I decided to go for cubone because he is a character that has always caught my attention, because he seems adorable to me and even more if we consider this story I just mentioned.
That's why I chose Cubone, because I wanted to know what a beautiful character like this would look like.
With this in mind I got down to work and sat down to think about how I wanted to draw him. Immediately I remembered some pokemon cards I had as a child, in one of these cards appeared cubone. Some examples of those cards are these: Link 1, Link 2.
I wanted to do something similar to those cards, giving it my own style, so I started to create the background, a dark sky with purple tints and clouds. Below you can see how it looked at first.
Starry skies are special, stars tend to cause different feelings in us when we stop to observe them, so I decided to draw to this sky numerous stars of different shapes and sizes.
As you can see, the stars stand out in a dark cloudy sky.
I imagine Cubone as a stallion pokemon, a wild pokemon that, if it existed, we would find it in green meadows looking for food or just resting. That is, a large green area where you could see it even if it were far away.
For this reason, I made for the ground of the drawing an area with little grass, with a purple tone so that it would not make too much contrast with the background sky. On the edge I drew a few grass marks so that it would not be a completely flat surface, but as close as possible to what I wanted to represent, the upper part of a meadow.
It could also be a small hill where Cubone went to look at the sky every night, perhaps feeling some nostalgia for the loss of his mother.
Enough with the background, let's go with the main character of the drawing which is Cubone. But let's see, he's a very pretty character so I didn't want to give him a simple setting, so that's why I started with the background first.
Now, with this very nice scenery finished, I started with the sketch of the pokemon. I made thin lines to give me an idea of how I wanted the character. Here you can see what these initial strokes looked like and then the final stroke:

Although this pokemon's skin is a bit lighter than the colors I chose (in the image below you can see these colors), I decided to use these colors because they looked more appropriate for the color palette that the background itself had.
Although they look dull, they help to create this slightly sad setting in which cubone observes the night sky of his habitat.
White mixed with purple, very little purple, and a rather opaque brown.
For the shadows I simply followed the same color palette, only darker for each color. I used a thick brush to create the initial shape of the shadow and then I used the watercolor brush to blend the shadow.
Below you can see how the drawing turned out with the respective shadows:
Finally I added the details, those that give more life to the drawing and embellish it even more. In this case the details were simply to merge Cubone a little more with the environment.
I made a few lines in the lower part of the pokemon, to make something similar to the grass that rises above the feet and tail of the character, who is stepping on this grass. The same for the bone that cubone uses, which is on the floor.
The other thing was to add more mist and purple colors around cubone's body, as I said, to create a better fusion between the main character and the background scenery.

En alguna otra ocasión les he comentado que me encanta Pokemon. Sinceramente me gusta mas Digimon, pero pokemon también es una de mis franquisias favoritas por la gran cantidad de personajes que tiene. Pues bien, hace poco hice un bulbasaur de plastilina, así que me dije "¿Por qué no dibujas uno a ver que tal?"
Pues bien, pude manos a la obra y esto fue lo que salió, un dibujo al que titulé Sad Cubone. Espero les guste.
¿Por qué Cubone? Es probable que hayan escuchado alguna vez cierta historia triste sobre este Cubone. Dicen que fue un pokemon bebé cuya madre murió y que el cráneo que tiene en la cabeza es el de su madre. ¿Pero qué pokemón es?
Algunos dicen que puede ser un charmander bebé, porque el cráneo que usa es parecido al de un charizar; otros dicen que es una cria de kangaskhan, lo cual podría ser cierto por la forma tan parecida que tiene el pequeño cubone con un kangaskhan.
Sea como sea, no está confirmado ningun caso, al menos hasta donde yo sé. El punto es que me decidí por cubone porque es un personaje que siempre me ha llamado la atención, porque me parece adorable y más si consideramos esta historia que les acabo de mencionar.
Por eso escogí a cubone, porque quería saber que tal quedaría un personaje tan bonito como este.
Con esto en mente puse manos a la obra y me senté a idear cómo quería dibujarlo. De inmediato recordé unas cartas de pokemon que tuve de niño, en una de estas cartas aparecía cubone. Algunos ejemplos de esas cartas son estos: enlace 1, enlace 2.
Quería hacer algo semejante a esas cartas, dándole un estilo propio así que comencé a crear el fondo, un cielo oscuro con tintes purpura y con nubes. A continuación pueden ver cómo quedó en un primer momento.
Los cielos estrellados son especiales, las estrellas suelen causar en nosotros sentimientos diversos cuando nos detenemos a observarlas, así que decidí dibujarle a este cielo numerosas estrellas de distintas formas y tamaños.
Como pueden observar, las estrellas resaltan en un oscuro cielo nublado.
Cubone lo imagino como un pokemon de padrera, un pokemon salvaje que, de existir, lo encontraríamos en verdes prados buscando comida o simplemente descansando. Es decir, un área verde y extensa en donde podrías verlo incluso si estuviese lejos.
Por este motivo, hice para el suelo del dibujo un área con poco pasto, con tono morado para que no hiciese demasiado contraste con el cielo de fondo. En el borde dibujé unas cuantas marcas de pasto para que no fuese una superficie completamente plana, sino que fuese lo más parecido a lo que buscaba representar, la parte alta de una pradera.
También podría ser una pequeña loma en la que cubone fuese a mirar al cielo todas las noches, tal vez sintiendo algo de nostalgia por la pérdida de su mamá.
Suficiente con el fondo, vamos con el protagonista del dibujo que es Cubone. Pero a ver, es un personaje muy bonito así que no quería darle un escenario simple, así que por eso comencé primero con el fondo.
Ahora bien, con este escenario tan bonito terminado, comencé con el boceto del pokemon. Hice delgadas líneas para darme una idea de cómo quería al personaje. Aquí pueden ver cómo eran estos trazos iniciales y luego el trazo final:

Aunque la piel de este pokemon es un poco más clara que los colores que elegí (en la imagen de abajo pueden ver estos colores), decidí usar estos colores porque se veían más adecuados para la paleta de colores que tenía el propio fondo en sí.
Aunque se ven opacos, ayudan a crear este escenario un poco triste en el que cubone observa el cielo nocturno de su hábitad.
Blanco mezclado con purpura, muy poco de purpura, y un marrón bastante opaco.
Para las sombras simplemente seguí la misma paleta de colores, solo que con mayor oscuridad cada color. Usé un pincel grueso para crear la forma inicial de la sombra y posteriormente usé el pincel acuarelado para difuminar la sombra.
A continuación pueden observar como quedó el dibujo con las respectivas sombras:
Finalmente agregué los detalles, esos que le dan más vida al dibujo y lo embellecen aún más. En este caso los detalles simplemente eran para fusionar un poco mas a Cubone con el ambiente.
Hice unas cuantas líneas en la parte baja del pokemon, para hacer algo similar al cesped que se levanta por encima de los pies y cola del personaje, que esta pisando este cesped. Lo mismo para el hueso que usa cubone, el cual está en el piso.
Lo otro fue agregar más neblina y colores purpura alrededor del cuerpo de cubone, como dije, para crear una mejor fusión entre el personaje principal y el escenario de fondo.
De esta forma el dibujo quedó terminado. A continuación pueden ver una imagen del resultado final en formato PNG, por si gustan descargarlo y usarlo.

Seh... esas leyendas tristes de pokemon. Hay historias e historias en ese mundo, solo quise representar una. Lo iba a hacer con el cráneo fuera y mas chiquito el cubone, como si fuese a ponerse el casco en ese momento, pero no sé, al final me decidí por este y creo que quedó bien.
