There are only a few days left to enjoy Christmas, but preparations to receive the Christmas season are already underway. Weeks prior to the commemoration of Christ's birth, believers in the Catholic Church celebrate the Advent season, during which time they gather to read the Gospel and light a candle to symbolize the expectation of the arrival of Jesus of Nazareth. This Christian tradition symbolizes the four weeks of Advent. It consists of a wreath of branches with four candles. Beginning on the first Sunday of Advent, the lighting of a candle can be accompanied by Bible reading, prayers and the beginning of the period of spiritual preparation before Christmas Eve.
The word Advent comes from Latin and means the "coming". It has its origin in a pagan tradition of the peoples of Northern Europe, this consisted in lighting a candle representing the Sun God to ask for the return of warmth and light in winter, this was adapted by missionaries in their missions to evangelize.
It covers four weeks before Christmas, so this year it goes from Sunday, November 28 to Friday, December 24, on Christmas Eve. It should be noted that it is in the shape of a circle to remind us that God has no beginning and no end, this refers to the fact that his love is eternal, as well as the love of people for him and for each other, it also refers to the expectation of the Messiah and the second coming of Christ.
The Advent Wreath has three purple candles and one pink candle that is lit on the third Sunday of Advent. The purple color represents the spirit of vigil, penance and sacrifice that we must have to adequately prepare ourselves for the coming of Christ. While the pink represents the joy we feel at the nearness of the Lord's birth. In the center, a white candle or sirio is placed symbolizing Christ as the center of all that exists.
It is also accompanied by branches representing hope and life, this foliage can be of fir, pine or some artificial material. Another of the elements that adorn the Advent Wreath are the red apples or fruits in this case we made it with dried tangerine, these refer to the forbidden fruit that Adam and Eve took from the Garden of Eden, so it symbolizes the original sin, but also the promise of the Savior's arrival.
Place it in a special place in the home, preferably in a fixed place where family members can see it to remember the coming of Jesus and the importance of preparing for Christmas.
Quedan pocos días para disfrutar de la Navidad, pero los preparativos para recibirla ya están en marcha. Semanas antes de la conmemoración del nacimiento de Cristo, los creyentes de la Iglesia católica celebran el tiempo de Adviento, durante el cual se reúnen para leer el Evangelio y encender una vela para simbolizar la espera de la llegada de Jesús de Nazaret. Esta tradición cristiana simboliza las cuatro semanas de Adviento. Consiste en una corona de ramas con cuatro velas. A partir del primer domingo de Adviento, el encendido de una vela puede ir acompañado de la lectura de la Biblia, de oraciones y del inicio del periodo de preparación espiritual antes de la Nochebuena.
La palabra Adviento proviene del latín y significa "venida". Tiene su origen en una tradición pagana de los pueblos del norte de Europa, ésta consistía en encender una vela que representaba al Dios Sol para pedir el regreso del calor y la luz en invierno, esto fue adaptado por los misioneros en sus misiones de evangelización.
Abarca cuatro semanas antes de la Navidad, por lo que este año va desde el domingo 28 de noviembre hasta el viernes 24 de diciembre, en Nochebuena. Cabe destacar que tiene forma de círculo para recordarnos que Dios no tiene principio ni fin, esto hace referencia a que su amor es eterno, así como el amor de las personas hacia él y entre sí, también hace referencia a la espera del Mesías y la segunda venida de Cristo.
La corona de Adviento tiene tres velas moradas y una rosa que se enciende el tercer domingo de Adviento. El color morado representa el espíritu de vigilia, penitencia y sacrificio que debemos tener para prepararnos adecuadamente para la venida de Cristo. Mientras que el rosa representa la alegría que sentimos ante la cercanía del nacimiento del Señor. En el centro se coloca una vela blanca o sirio que simboliza a Cristo como centro de todo lo que existe.
También se acompaña de ramas que representan la esperanza y la vida, este follaje puede ser de abeto, pino o algún material artificial. Otro de los elementos que adornan la Corona de Adviento son las manzanas o frutos rojos en este caso lo hicimos con mandarina seca, estos hacen referencia al fruto prohibido que Adán y Eva tomaron del Jardín del Edén, por lo que simboliza el pecado original, pero también la promesa de la llegada del Salvador.
Colócalo en un lugar especial de la casa, preferiblemente en un sitio fijo donde los miembros de la familia puedan verlo para recordar la llegada de Jesús y la importancia de preparar la Navidad.
