Lately, I've been fascinated by origami because I find it incredible that with a simple piece of paper you can achieve so many things, from simple decorations and works of art to even very functional items such as envelopes or gift bags. Each piece can be unique and contains a piece of you, your patience, determination, and time. I wanted to start with something simple, paper animals that will not only help me practice this ancient art, but also decorate my room. Later, I plan to increase the level of complexity as I become more skilled at it. So, in this case, join me in making a cute paper elephant.
Últimamente he estado sintiendo mucha fascinación por el origami porque me parece increíble que con un simple trozo de papel se puedan lograr muchas cosas, desde simples adornos y obras de arte, hasta incluso cosas muy funcionales como sobres de cartas o bolsas de regalo, cada pieza puede ser única y contiene un trozo de ti, de tu paciencia, empeño y tu tiempo. Quise iniciar con algo sencillo, animales de papel que no solo me servirán para practicar este arte ancestral, sino para decorar mi habitación, y posteriormente pienso ir incrementando el nivel de complejidad, según me vaya haciendo más diestra en esto. Así que en este caso acompáñenme a elaborar un tierno elefante de papel.
The first thing you will need is a square sheet of paper measuring 21 x 21 cm. The texture of this paper should not be too soft but rather structured, although not too thick.
Lo primero que necesitarás es una hoja de papel cuadrada de 21 X 21 Cm. La textura de este papel no debe ser demasiado blanda sino más bien con estructura, aunque no de demasiado grosor.
First, join the two corners of the paper, as shown in the photograph, to form a triangle. Start with one corner, open the paper, and do the same with the other corner to create X-shaped folds.
En primer lugar une las dos esquinas del papel, tal como se ve en la fotografía, hasta obtener un triángulo, primero con una esquina, abre el papel, y haz lo mismo con la otra esquina, para obtener dobleces en forma de X.

Then turn the sheet over and fold it in half, first on one side and then on the other.
Luego voltea la hoja y dobla por la mitad, primero de un lado y después del otra

Then take the sheet as shown in the photo and push down until you get a perfect square.
Después toma la hoja como muestro en la fotografía y ve empujando hacia abajo hasta obtener un cuadrado perfecto.

Take the paper as shown in the photograph and fold it along the center line on both sides. Be sure to crease the lines firmly. You can use a ruler or even your fingernails.
Toma el papel como se muestra en la fotografía y dobla el papel hasta la línea del medio en ambos lados. No te olvides de marcar muy bien las Líneas. Puedes usar una regla o incluso tus uñas.

Now turn the sheet over and do exactly the same thing on the other side.

Fold this small excess triangle upward, then turn it over and fold it again in the opposite direction.

Unfold the paper in this way, then open it and push both sides (left and right) inward.
Desdobla el papel de esta manera, luego ábrelo y empuja los dos laterales (izquierda y derecha hacia adentro.)

Turn the paper over and do exactly the same thing on the other side until you have a piece like this.
Gira el papel y haz exactamente lo mismo con el otro lado hasta que te quede una pieza como esta.
Now take one of the bottom pieces and fold it diagonally to the right, then do the same with the left.
Ahora toma una de las piezas inferiores y dóblala en diagonal hacia la derecha, después haz lo mismo con la izquierda.

You will be left with a star shape. Open one of the ends, push it inwards, and press down with your fingers to mark the lines correctly. Do the same with the other side until you have another star shape, but with shorter arms.
Te quedará una especie de estrella, debes abrir uno de los extremos, empujar hacia adentro y aplastar con los dedos para que se marquen correctamente las líneas, haz lo mismo con el otro lado hasta obtener otra estrella pero de brazos más cortos.

Then take the two points (left and right) of the star and bring them to the center, as shown in the photos.
Posteriormente toma las dos puntas (izquierda y derecha) de la estrella y llévalas al centro, tal como se muestra en als fotos.

Fold the two corners (right and left) inward, the idea being that they should line up with the line running down the middle.

At this point, fold it in half as shown in the photo.

Turn the piece over and once you have it on the other side, fold the triangle up and make a small cut up to the boundary line.

Fold the piece in half like this and start shaping the ears by folding the small upper triangles upward.

Take the right end and fold it down. This will begin to shape the elephant's trunk.
Toma el extremo derecho y dobla hacia abajo, con esto comenzaremos a dar forma a la trompa del elefante 🐘

Lift up the piece you folded again, place your finger on top, and push down until it looks like this. You have now shaped the head.

Now open the piece you just folded and fold both ends inward. The idea is to make this area thinner so that it looks more and more like an elephant's trunk.
Ahora abre la pieza que acabas de doblar y dobla ambos extremos hacia adentro, de esta manera, la idea es adelgazar esta zona, para que cada vez parezca más la trompa de un elefante 🐘 💕

Fold it back up again, then open the top part as shown in the photos and bring the long piece up, then fold the tip down.

Do exactly the same as in the previous step: open the larger piece and insert the smaller one, so it looks like the elephant is raising its trunk to say hello.

Now we will shape the back part. To do this, fold the back end forward, then fold it back up, open it, and push the paper inward.

If you open that back part, it will look like this, then take the pointed part at the bottom and fold it up.

Then you will need to fold both ends inward.

Fold the pointed part down again and fold the inner parts down, then fold the pointed part back up and fold it inward again.

This is sooooo cute 🤩. You really just need patience in folding everything to finish it. This is fun to make and at the same time, its like a therapy. And yeah, this is also a nice decoration too.
