Nunca había optado por comprarle uno, pero este año no me he resistido a un ejemplar de María Hesse, una autora a la que adoro: sus ilustraciones son fabulosas, llenas de color, originalidad y mensaje. He elegido El placer, una obra que podrá disfrutarla doblemente, pues el texto viene acompañado de preciosas imágenes, y que podrá releer incansablemente. Sin embargo, ese no sería el único regalo para ella, le confeccionaría un álbum de fotos para que incluyese recuerdos de su niñez. Os presento mi último trabajo de scrapbooking:

It's Raquel's birthday, my great friend, a lover of reading, and this year she couldn't be without a book as a gift. She is a devourer of literature, both in paper and digital format. I had never opted to buy her one, but this year I couldn't resist a copy of Maria Hesse, an author I adore: her illustrations are fabulous, full of colour, originality and message. I have chosen The Pleasure, a work that you will enjoy doubly, as the text is accompanied by beautiful images, and that you will be able to reread tirelessly. However, that would not be the only gift for her, I would make her a photo album to include memories of her childhood. Quiero mostraros todo el proceso de elaboración, desde la selección de las fotografías, la elección de los materiales, las técnicas y herramientas empleadas,...hasta los trucos para que el trabajo sea impecable. Ha sido una tarea de varias jornadas, pues tampoco puedo dedicarle todo el tiempo que quisiera a esta pasión, aún así, lo he terminado relativamente rápido, y os lo quiero contar todo con detalle.
I want to show you the whole process of elaboration, from the selection of the photographs, the choice of materials, the techniques and tools used,... to the tricks to make the work impeccable. PARTE 1: LA SELECCIÓN DE LAS FOTOGRAFÍAS
Cuando decidí realizar este libro, contacté con la hermana de mi amiga para pedirle fotos familiares a las que pudiera hacerles copias. De todas las que me facilitó, me quedé con las que salía Raquel de niña, y finalmente me decidí por las que estaban en blanco y negro. Mi preferida es la de su bonita sonrisa (la instantánea en la que lleva puestos unos tirantes) y esa sería la que protagonizaría la portada del libro. Después, reservaría aquella en la que abraza a su madre para la primera página del libro.
Ahí lo dejaría. El resto del libro se quedaría preparado para que ella fuese incluyendo sus fotos favoritas.
PART 1: SELECTING THE PHOTOGRAPHS
When I decided to make this book, I contacted my friend's sister to ask her for family photos that I could make copies of. Of all the ones she gave me, I kept the ones with Raquel as a child, and finally I decided to go for the ones in black and white. My favourite is the one with her beautiful smile (the one with her wearing braces) and that would be the one that would be on the cover of the book. After that, I would reserve the one where he hugs his mother for the first page of the book.
That's where I'd leave it. I would leave the rest of the book ready for her to include her favourite photos.
PARTE 2: LA ELECCIÓN DE LOS MATERIALES
¡Esta parte me encanta! La mejor inspiración para comenzar un libro de scrapbook es tener una foto delante. Y la imagen de esta preciosa sonrisa de hace cuarenta años sólo podía hacerme pensar en colores alegres, en dibujos sencillos y en materiales cálidos.
Pensé que un fondo en negro nos evocaría los antiguos álbumes de fotos que veía por casa de niña, donde se iban pegando las instantáneas y se anotaban al lado fechas y topónimos. Esa sería la base del conjunto, y sobre ella trabajaríamos, añadiéndole papeles decorados y elementos que dejarían al negro en un segundo plano.
Elegí unos pliegos decorados con flores y otros con sencillos elementos geométricos como líneas, triángulos o estrellas. Todo estaba impreso en rosas, aguamarina, blancos y amarillos (y en algunos papeles con un toque de negro, lo que nos vendría genial a nuestra idea). Con esta base de color, los elementos decorativos tendrían que seguir la misma gama, y así fui seleccionando pasamanerías, cintas de madroño, pompones de algodón, botones, clips,...
Siguiendo la idea de rememorar un álbum de fotos antiguo, la estructura sería de acordeón, por lo que los materiales necesarios para ella serían únicamente el cartón contracolado (para las tapas y el lomo), papel negro de alto gramaje (para elaborar el fuelle) y cola y cinta adhesiva de papel de encuadernar como adhesivo. Unas tijeras, regla, cúter y una base de corte nos bastarán para elaborar nuestro libro.

PART 2: THE CHOICE OF MATERIALS
I love this part! The best inspiration to start a scrapbook is to have a photo in front of you. And the image of this beautiful smile from forty years ago could only make me think of cheerful colours, simple drawings and warm materials.
I thought that a black background would evoke the old photo albums I used to see at home when I was a child, where the snapshots were glued together and dates and place names were written next to them. That would be the basis of the whole, and we would work on it, adding decorated papers and elements that would leave the black in the background.I chose some sheets decorated with flowers and others with simple geometric elements such as lines, triangles or stars. Everything was printed in pinks, aquamarine, whites and yellows (and on some papers with a touch of black, which would be great for our idea). With this colour base, the decorative elements would have to follow the same range, and so I selected trimmings, ribbons, cotton pompoms, buttons, clips,....
Following the idea of recalling an old photo album, the structure would be an accordion structure, so the only materials needed for it would be glued cardboard (for the covers and spine), heavyweight black paper (to make the gusset) and glue and binding paper tape as adhesive. A pair of scissors, a ruler, a box cutter and a cutting mat will be enough to make our book.
