My experience with styling my friend's dreads for a day out.

in Hive Diy2 years ago

Hello Hivers. Today I am going to show you guys how I did my friend's hair.
She has had dreads locks for a year now and it is something I have always admired. Before this experience I always thought the process will be stressful and time consuming, but alas, it was not. I asked if I could do her hair and she agreed. Mind you I have no experience with dread locks prior to this. So the fact that she trusted me and decided to give me a chance made me feel challenged to do something good.
I immediately did a quick research and found an easy but beautiful way to do it. With time and more practice I’m sure to becoming a pro.
I will work you through the process now.

This is the length, texture and color of the dreads.
Before I touched or applied anything to it.
To prep the hair for styling, I used soy organics locking bees with leave in conditioner. I then sprinkled some water on the hair because it makes it easier and lighter to style. I let the hair rest for 1 to 2 minutes before I continued so the products can sink in.

The shine this product gave was surreal.
I then sectioned the hair into two parts. Top half and button. I held the top half in place with a rubber ring; if this is not available you can use a hair band or pins. Anything to just hold the hair up. Be careful not to hold the hair too tight as it may cause head aches. We don’t want that now, do we?. I then removed three dread lock strands from the top half and let it fall to the face. The bottom half of the hair, I just let it loose and fall to the back. The beauty in the style already began to reveal itself at this point.

At this point I decided to lay the edges( front loosed hair) with hair wax. I applied the wax to the hair generously and used a toothbrush brush(I use just for my hair) to style it into my desired styles. When I was done with that I had to tie the area I applied the hair wax with a head tie. This is done to make the hair wax last longer thereby making the edges laid for a longer period of time. You tie the hair for 2-3 minutes and remove the hair tie and you are all set.

The hair wax ,brush and hair tie I used respectively.

This is the finished look. The entire process took less than 5 minutes and it’s an easy but very stylish and chic style.
Trying this should be a no brainer and it’s definitely something I’ll recommend to anyone with dread locks .
My friend will definitely come back to me to do this after she receives so many compliments.
I hope you guys enjoyed this and most definitely learnt something new.
Thanks.
