Well I probably wouldn't call myself a genius, thanks though :) What I used to do when I was printing with ABS plastic was to dissolve some of it in acetone until I had a thick paste. I used it to glue parts with it, and heal cracks etc. This plus a quick sanding with sand paper gave it pretty decent finish without any visible seams.
