Homemade ZOBO Drink: Fresh and Natural

Over the years, there has been an alarming increase in the rate of cancer. These traits have been scientifically traced back to the food We eat. Processed food has slowly become part of the staple food we eat every day. They are easy to get, tasty to the tongue, easy to make, less expensive but contain an enormous amount of carcinogenic chemicals, artificial flavoring and sweeteners, preservatives, etc. These are artificial substances, become toxic and poisonous to our health, exposing us to the risk of getting cancers.

Most of these processed foods are produced in a very unhygienic and disease breeding environment which becomes detrimental to our health.

Over the Weekend I was able to make some Fresh Juice or I would say drink all by myself. This drink was made from dried hibiscus flowers(so I heard), but in my area it is called ZOBO leaves.
ZOBO drinks are popular in my region. It is easy to make, less expensive, tasty and nutritious to the body and it contains some level of blood boosters as medically proven.
In this article I'll share with you the step by step process I employed in making this tasty Drink.

Materials Needed for this Drink includes:

  • ZOBO leaves(the dry ones)

  • Pineapple as the natural flavoring

  • Vitamin C( I don't know it's name, but it is fondly called Natural Vit. C in my area)

The most important ingredient in making this Drink is the ZOBO leaves itself. This leaf is being used when it is in its dried form. It can be gotten from the store or market. Since you are not very sure of its hygiene, and also because it is a leaf it is proper, you wash thoroughly to avoid every form of debris, dust or even stones.
Ripe pineapples can be used for Flavor. Oranges and other fruits with strong flavors can be used as well. Ginger and other spices of your choice can be added to the drink to give it some extraordinary taste.

Being a homemade product, I was very dedicated to every process in making this drink. I had to wash all my ingredients and materials needed rendering it free from all forms of debt dirt. Since I was making it in bulk form, my cooker wasn't going to contain it, so I had to make a local fire which would fit the size of My pot.

Steps in Preparation

-Wash all materials.
-Set up my fire
-Place my pot on fire and fill the required amount of water.
-When the water became Tepid, I added my washed ZOBO leaves and all my ingredients in the pot of water

-Cover and allow to Boil properly for about 30-45 minutes.
-The reason I added all my ingredients Is to enable everything to boil properly and get absorbed into the juice.
-After it has finished boiling and ready, get a clean sieve and filter.
-Set aside for some minute, so that the extra debris or dirt will settle to the bottom
-Repeat the sieve process till you are satisfied.

-It is quite optional to add the additional sweeter, depending on your taste bud. For me I would choose to add honey as a natural sweetener tho.
Set aside to cool and ready to drink

Yippie, our pure natural drink is ready. Easy as pie😋😋 right???????
When my drink was ready, I collected it into bottles for storage in the fridge.

While I was making this drink, I said to myself that when I have my own family, I would love to constantly prepare drinks like this and other natural fruit juice for my children to avoid unnecessary intake of processed drinks. This drink was totally hygienic, and every member of my family loved it.
