Materiales
Utilicé hilos de algodón en los colores, carne claro para el rostro y manos, negro para el pantalón, las botas, la correa, la banda cruzada y el sombrero de Húsar, rojo para la chaqueta y sombrero de gala, blanco para la pechera y los dientes del Cascanueces, amarillo con hilo dorado para las hombreras y puños del traje, rosado medio para el contorno de la boca, amarillo tostado para el cabello, bigotes, barba y cejas, beige con hilo dorado para la corona del príncipe. También utilicé cordón fino dorado para el adorno del traje y de la corona, ojos de seguridad negros, una pluma verde para el sombrero de Húsar, algodón sintético para el relleno, aguja de tejer o ganchillo de crochet, aguja lanera, silicón frío y tijeras.
Cabeza
Con hilo color carne claro comencé a hacer la cabeza aumentando los puntos , luego varias rondas sin aumento para darle altura finalmente rondas de disminución hasta obtener un redondo, coloqué los ojos de seguridad por fuera y el broche por dentro para que no se salgan y verifiqué que estén en la posición adecuada. Rellené con algodón sintético o guata hasta darle dureza suficiente. Cerré el hoyo con aguja lanera. Con hilo del mismo color bordé la nariz alargada y las orejas . Con hilo amarillo tostado tejí cadenetas, medio punto y punto alto para hacer el cabello y luego las pegue con silicón líquido en la parte superior de la cabeza. Tejí unos bigotes medianos del mismo color y los pegué debajo de la nariz. Procedí a bordar las cejas amarillo tostado. Utilicé ese color tostado en el cabello y la tez color carne para simular a un ruso. Los dientes los tejí con hilo blanco y bordé alrededor con rosado medio para destacar la boca del cascanueces. Los cosí a la cabeza con la aguja lanera.
Sombrero
Comencé con hilo negro formando un círculo con vueltas de aumento y luego varias vueltas sin aumentos para darle altura. Cambié a hilo rojo, una vuelta, otra en dorado y otra en rojo para adornarlo y seguí con varias vueltas en negro. Rellené con algodón. Luego realicé la corona del príncipe con hilo amarillo e hilo dorado juntos, la coloqué en el borde inferior del sombrero y la pegué con silicón frío. La corona la adorné con cordón dorado. Finalmente, en el armado, pegué una pluma verde en el sombrero del soldado para simular al Húsar de esa época.
Cuerpo
Comencé con hilo negro a tejer los pies y piernas haciendo un cilindro con varias vueltas de tejido sin aumentos. Al tener dos iguales las empaté con tres cadenetas y seguí tejiendo con aumentos en cada ronda para obtener un cuerpo delgado, rellené los pies y piernas dándole dureza al muñeco. Al llegar a la cintura cambié al color rojo para hacer la chaqueta. Segui hasta formar el cuello con disminuciones en cada ronda. Rellené también el tronco y lo dejé hasta allí para hacer el empate de la cabeza. Luego teji las manos color carne claro, seguí haciendo los puños del traje en amarillo con hilo dorado, después un cilindro color rojo hasta llegar a la altura normal de los brazos. Aparte, realicé las hombreras en hilo amarillo con dorado y las pegué con silicón frío a los brazos. Procedí a hacer la pechera con hilo blanco y lo cosí a la chaqueta en el centro del pecho, adorné la pechera con cordón dorado simulando el traje de gala. Con hilo negro tejí la correa que va en la cintura y la banda cruzada en el pecho. Finalmente tejí con negro las botas del soldado un poco más anchas que los pies, las adorné con hilo rojo y dorado. Introduje en las botas un cartón para que quedaran planas y rellené con arroz para que pesaran y no se caiga el muñeco, luego un poco de algodón e introduje los pies. Lo cosí con aguja lanera y afirmé con silicón.
Este hermoso proyecto me ocupó 20 días hacerlo. Es mi primer Cascanueces y estoy fascinada. En ese tiempo de elaboración pude descubrir por qué es una historia tan universal que ha traspasado fronteras en el mundo y actual porque aún se representa esta obra a manera de ballet en la época de Navidad. Y estos conocimientos quise reflejarlos en mi figura del Cascanueces. Espero que les guste tanto como me gustó a mí elaborarlo. Saludos.

I used cotton threads in the colours, light flesh for the face and hands, black for the trousers, boots, belt, cross-band and Hussar hat, red for the jacket and gala hat, white for the breastplate and Nutcracker's teeth, yellow with gold thread for the shoulder pads and cuffs, medium pink for the outline of the mouth, tan yellow for the hair, moustaches, beard and eyebrows, beige with gold thread for the prince's crown. I also used thin gold cord for the costume and crown trim, black safety eyes, a green feather for the Hussar hat, synthetic cotton for the stuffing, knitting needle or crochet hook, wool needle, cold silicone and scissors.
Head
With light flesh-coloured yarn I began to make the head by increasing the stitches, then several rounds without increasing to give it height, finally decreasing rounds until I obtained a round, I placed the safety eyes on the outside and the clasp on the inside so that they would not come out and I checked that they were in the right position. I stuffed it with synthetic cotton or wadding until it was hard enough. I closed the hole with a wool needle. With thread of the same colour I embroidered the elongated nose and the ears. With yellow thread I knitted chain stitches, half stitch and high stitch to make the hair and then glued them with liquid silicone on the top of the head. I knitted medium sized moustaches in the same colour and glued them under the nose. I proceeded to embroider the eyebrows in tan yellow. I used that tan colour for the hair and the flesh-coloured complexion to simulate a Russian. I knitted the teeth with white thread and embroidered around them with medium pink to highlight the nutcracker's mouth. I sewed them to the head with the wool needle.
Hat
I started with black yarn forming a circle with increasing loops and then several loops without increases to give it height. I changed to red thread, one loop, another in gold and another in red to embellish it and then I continued with several black loops. I filled it with cotton. Then I made the prince's crown with yellow and gold thread together, placed it on the lower edge of the hat and glued it with cold silicone. I decorated the crown with golden string. Finally, in the assembly, I glued a green feather on the soldier's hat to simulate the Hussar of that era.
Body
I started with black yarn to knit the feet and legs making a cylinder with several rounds of knitting without increases. When I had two of the same number I tied them with three chains and continued knitting with increases in each round to obtain a thin body, I filled in the feet and legs giving the doll stiffness. When I reached the waist I changed to red to make the jacket. I continued to make the neck with decreases in each round. I also filled in the trunk and left it there to make the head tie. Then I knitted the light flesh-coloured hands, continued to make the cuffs of the suit in yellow with golden thread, then a red cylinder until I reached the normal height of the arms. Then I made the shoulder pads in yellow and gold thread and glued them to the arms with cold silicone. I proceeded to make the breastplate with white thread and sewed it to the jacket in the centre of the chest, I decorated the breastplate with golden cord simulating the gala costume. With black thread I knitted the belt that goes around the waist and the crossed band on the chest. Finally I knitted the soldier's boots with black, a little wider than the feet, and decorated them with red and gold thread. I inserted a piece of cardboard into the boots so that they would lie flat and filled them with rice so that they would weigh the doll down, then a bit of cotton wool and inserted the feet. I stitched it with a wool needle and secured it with silicone.
This beautiful project took me 20 days to make. It is my first Nutcracker and I am fascinated. In that time of elaboration I could discover why it is such a universal story that has crossed borders in the world and why this work is still performed as a ballet at Christmas time.
