The natural environment where I live isn't doing well. The floods of November 26th swept away many things, including the insect shelters. The small bushes that once grew lushly are now gone, buried under thick, dense mud. Finding insects in the wild is a bit more difficult now, especially with the drizzle almost every day, and I have to go to higher ground, where the floodwaters don't reach.
The place I visited this time felt very quiet, with no birdsong or butterflies flitting about. I tried to think positively, perhaps they were still sleeping, as it was drizzling and the air was very cold when I arrived. I'd been there for over 10 minutes, but I hadn't found anything. I persisted in searching every detail of the bushes there. Finally, I found a common flangetail dragonfly perched on an unopened flower. Its long, black body blended with yellowish green. The color combination was very harmonious and striking.
Its two translucent wings were perfectly spread out, seemingly fragile yet holding a million unseen strengths. Look, numerous raindrops had already settled on its wings and body. Yet, the wings were still holding on, neither bent nor broken. An incredible miracle. Honestly, I felt sorry for this dragonfly, it looked so cold. Its entire body was soaked in the drizzle. I could only hope the sun would come out soon and the drizzle would stop.
