Underneath the grass, still damp from the drizzle, I found a creature sleeping soundly in its home. Perhaps the cool air had also contributed to its slumber. It was a Gea orb-weaver, or Gea theridioides in Latin, a small spider from the Araneidae family.
The Gea orb-weaver is a particularly adept home-builder. It builds its home under dense grass, sheltering it from strong winds and rain or drizzle, as I encountered here. The spot it chose also provides easy access to food; dense grass is highly favored by small insects, one of them is mosquitoes.
Simply by building a strong web, it's enough to fill its stomach. Delicious snacks will come naturally, without having to hunt. From a foraging perspective, this spider is quite fortunate. But it must remain vigilant, as spiders can also fall prey to other insects and small birds.

Beautiful images! Wow! I still find it absolutely fascinating how spiders build these intricate, silky and almost magical looking webs that also primarily (and ironically) serve as death traps! Spiders are fascinating creatures and artists in their own right.
💯 agree with you. an amazing work and a death trap, truly an extraordinary natural strategy. nature is full of surprises.
it truly is! Both death and life often hide around the corner with things unplanned ....

I really love spiders and seeing them up close and personal. I'm always happy to see that other people also admire them and find them worth their affectionate attention.
Yes, that's right, sometimes they are often ignored, even though they are also amazing when seen from a close distance.
💚
As a good photographer, you know how to search in the fullness of the grass for the beauty of nature that remains hidden from others.
Each of your photos is exquisite!
I'm glad I was able to capture beautiful moments like this that are often overlooked. They often appear in unexpected places. Thank you.
