This morning, I encountered another small surprise while walking along the path one that might easily have gone unnoticed had my eyes not been keen enough to spot it. It was a Pygmy Wisp, a species of damselfly belonging to the Coenagrionidae family. I found the tiny insect resting quietly on the stem of an unopened wildflower. I approached with great care, ensuring I did nothing to startle it into flight. It remained perfectly still, motionless. Perhaps it was taking a brief respite from a long journey, choosing that humble spot to pause and enjoy the peaceful morning.
The Pygmy Wisp possessed a tiny body, yet its striking coloration made it easy to spot. Its body was a reddish-orange, beautifully blended with black and hints of purplish-pink along its back and near its eyes. Its wings were clear, adorned with intricate, net-like patterns. They were not spread open but folded neatly against its back—so neatly, in fact, that at a quick glance, the wings were barely visible. Its slender legs held fast to the flower bud, keeping its body secure whenever the wind sought a partner to dance with.
