It seems I'm late again for Halloween in October, but since it's the weekend and I'm free, I started writing some scary stories featuring the Holozing characters. I'm doing this while also writing a bit more about the lore. In future posts, we'll be talking more about the story and how it unfolds with the characters we already have in the game.
There are also some interesting updates on the development of this title, as well as some ideas I made in the past about how Holozing, and video games in general made on the Hive blockchain, can benefit from the recent indie game boom.
But I'll talk about that in a future post, because for now, let's get a little spooked with some Halloween stories. Since it's a creature-themed video game, and considering some of the writing I've posted here over the months, it's not surprising that we could come up with a horror story from that world, especially with the types of creatures we have here.

If you remember, in a previous post we talked about... Of the different types of creatures, some were primitive, others possessed a kind of consciousness, even if only for hunting, and then there were those capable of thought like humans, and even far beyond that.
We also discussed the Elemental Islands, and that's where our story begins, deep within these islands with two adventurers trying to understand their powers and why humanity hasn't been able to tame them all this time.
For example.. Emberfall
The Elemental Islands were always strange, but Emberfall... Emberfall was something else. No one even knew if it was real, but somehow Lira and Martin ended up there, standing on this beach of black sand, their holo-cores flickering like they were scared.
There was no wind, no holo-creatures, nothing. Just this low sound coming from the ground, like something big breathing under their feet.
“Are you sure this is the place?” Martin asked, kinda whispering.
Lira nodded. “Yeah, the readings don’t lie. If we understand this island, we’ll know why the elements can’t be controlled.”
They walked inland, where the trees looked like they’d melted long ago and froze that way. The air burned, and the light felt heavy. There were ruins half buried in ash, covered in old symbols that seemed to move if you stared too long.
When Lira touched one, everything changed. The sound got louder, the air thicker. Then something came out of the mist — not really a creature, not really a person either. It looked like both, and neither.

“You seek what you cannot tame.” it said, voice all glitchy, like a broken recording.
Martin stepped back, but the shadows around them moved. They weren’t shadows actually, they were shapes… like echoes of people that once existed. And every time one appeared, it whispered something that sounded like their own voices.
Lira’s holo-core started glowing bright red. It’s calling her..
Martin tried to grab her, but his hand went right through her. For a second, she was see-through, like a hologram losing signal. Then she was gone.
The ground cracked open. Beneath it was a massive crystal heart, chained, glowing, alive. Kael heard her voice again — not from the air, but inside his head.
“They’re not creatures of the elements… the elements come from them.”

Then everything went dark.
When they found Maartin later, he was on the beach again, staring at nothing, holding two holo-cores melted together. His eyes glowed faintly red.
His last log had just one line, in Lira’s voice:
“The islands remember.”
