🐇 Zappity & 🐶 Xolobis: A Slimy Hug of Friendship

Fan Art

A bunny full of spark and a puppy full of love ⚡💧

Today I want to share with you my latest Holozing illustration, starring two of the funniest holos: Zappity, the electric rabbit with a sparkly look, and Xolobis, the slobbery but affectionate little dog.

I loved the final result—especially with Zappity. I achieved a finish I’d always been aiming for: soft textures, defined edges, and a very cartoonish style. The scene is pure fun: while Zappity tries to keep his dignity and stay serious, Xolobis covers him in slobber to show his affection. That dynamic felt so tender and funny that this became my favorite Holozing card illustration showcasing holos—and you can see it at the end of the post!

🐇 ZAPPITY & XOLOBIS: ELECTRIC SPARKS AND DROOLY LOVE ⚡💧

In the Holozing universe, not all bonds are born in battle. Some, like this one, are pure friendship and companionship. Zappity brings spark, speed, and that mischievous energy that electrifies the air, while Xolobis shows that even slobber can be a symbol of sincere affection.

It’s this mix of adorable and hilarious that inspires me most about this fanart.

🧠 TOOLS USED:

  • Photoshop (as always, my digital salvation).
  • Brushes: my trusty brush pack, with a few new ones featuring glitter effects
  • Soundtrack: The recommendation is "Impose" by Bad Omens. It just dropped literally as I'm writing this — go listen!
  • Resolution: 2500x3600 px

(Thx to @holozing for such adorable creatures to bring to life!)

⏰ CREATIVE PROCESS

✏️ Phase 1: Sketch & Lineart

From the very beginning, my goal was to capture the cartoonish essence of the scene. I started with a dynamic sketch, playing with the interaction between the two: Zappity trying to stay "cool," and Xolobis getting too close—tongue out and ready to drench him in slobber. The baseline sketch was key to balancing tenderness and comedy, which was reinforced by Zappity’s irritated look.

🎨 Phase 2: Grayscale

These days I've been working in grayscale first to ensure the shapes, shadows, and volume conveyed the relationship between the characters. I managed to avoid exaggerating the contrast or overusing dark tones, while still giving each character its own visual prominence.

🌗 Phase 3: From Gray to Color

When applying color, I used Hard Light and Multiply blending modes to generate the colors for each character. As you know, this lets me quickly add color without altering the grayscale work. Even so, I still had to go back and adjust the tones using Soft Light and Overlay modes—and of course, paint normally to build the textures I wanted or, in this case, cover the line art in certain areas.

🌟 Phase 4: Final Touches

Zappity had turned out too yellowish, so I corrected the color by shifting it to a more orange tone. I added the slobber over Zappity with a bit of hesitation—I couldn’t paint it pure white because it looked like something straight out of the wilder side of Twitter art. So, I tried to make it as transparent as possible. I also continued painting over the lines to achieve a cleaner result, while keeping the eye outlines intact since both characters' expressions turned out great.

For the background, I kept it simple—I just applied colors that would make the characters stand out even more, making sure not to steal their spotlight at all.

✨ And that's it… another holo duo added to my Holozing fanart collection!

Which holo or healer should I paint next?
