Hello everyone! I’m Lorentm, a digital artist thrilled to share with you another artwork for this year’s Zingtober, the Inktober event organized by the amazing Holozing community. Today’s prompt is “Rivals,” and I had such a fun time creating this monochromatic piece that captures both strength and humor. I wanted to bring to life two characters from Holozing that I truly enjoy drawing — the Male Light Healer and the Male Forest Healer — but with a twist that made me laugh the entire time I was working on it.
When I read the prompt “Rivals,” the first image that popped into my mind was the iconic handshake scene between Dutch and Dillon from Predator. I couldn’t resist imagining what it would look like if these two healers, usually so serene and focused on helping others, faced each other in a friendly contest of strength. That thought instantly set the tone for my artwork — equal parts intensity and playfulness.
Both healers have their own energy and charisma. The Light Healer exudes purity and calmness, while the Forest Healer carries the power of nature and vitality. Putting them together felt like merging sunlight and earth, two forces that don’t oppose each other, but rather challenge each other in a friendly balance.
I must say, when I finished the drawing and looked at it again, I realized that the composition and shading gave it a vibe very similar to the anime Baki. That powerful, almost over-the-top tension made me smile. What do you think? Does it remind you more of Predator or Baki? I’d love to hear your thoughts!

Soy Lorentm, una artista digital muy emocionada de compartir con ustedes una nueva obra para el Zingtober de este año, el evento de Inktober organizado por la increíble comunidad de Holozing. La palabra clave de hoy es “Rivals” (Rivales), y me divertí muchísimo creando esta ilustración monocromática que combina fuerza y humor. Quise representar a dos personajes de Holozing que disfruto mucho dibujar: el Male Light Healer y el Male Forest Healer, pero con un giro gracioso que me sacó más de una sonrisa mientras lo hacía.
Cuando leí la palabra “Rivals”, lo primero que se me vino a la mente fue la escena icónica del saludo entre Dutch y Dillon en la película Depredador. No pude evitar imaginar cómo sería si estos dos sanadores, normalmente tan tranquilos y dedicados a ayudar a los demás, se enfrentaran en una amistosa competencia de fuerza. Esa idea marcó el tono de mi dibujo: una mezcla perfecta de intensidad y diversión.
Ambos sanadores tienen una energía muy distinta. El Light Healer transmite pureza y calma, mientras que el Forest Healer irradia la fuerza y vitalidad de la naturaleza. Juntarlos fue como combinar la luz del sol con la tierra: dos fuerzas que no se oponen, sino que se retan en un equilibrio amistoso.
Debo admitir que, al terminar el dibujo y verlo completo, noté que la estética y el sombreado le daban un aire muy similar al anime Baki. Esa tensión exagerada pero divertida me encantó. ¿Y ustedes qué piensan? ¿Se parece más a Depredador o a Baki? ¡Me encantaría saberlo!
In this drawing, both healers are facing each other with confident smiles, locking hands in a powerful arm-wrestling stance. Their muscles are tensed, and their expressions reflect both determination and mutual respect — the perfect embodiment of friendly rivalry. The Male Light Healer, on the left, has long, flowing hair and a composed yet daring look. The Male Forest Healer, on the right, sports shorter, wild hair, representing his connection to nature’s untamed spirit.
The background, textured with a grid pattern, enhances the sense of tension between the two characters, almost like a fighting arena. Despite being a monochrome piece, I focused on giving each of them a distinct identity through shading — light and soft for the Light Healer, deeper and earthy for the Forest Healer.
En este dibujo, ambos sanadores se enfrentan con sonrisas seguras, entrelazando sus manos en una intensa competencia de fuerza. Sus músculos se tensan y sus expresiones reflejan tanto determinación como respeto mutuo, el símbolo perfecto de una rivalidad amistosa. El Male Light Healer, ubicado a la izquierda, tiene el cabello largo y suelto, y una mirada serena pero desafiante. El Male Forest Healer, a la derecha, lleva el cabello más corto y rebelde, mostrando su vínculo con el espíritu salvaje de la naturaleza.
El fondo, con una textura cuadriculada, refuerza la sensación de tensión entre ambos, como si se encontraran en una arena de combate. A pesar de ser una ilustración monocromática, me enfoqué en darles identidad a través del sombreado: tonos más claros y suaves para el Light Healer, y sombras más profundas y terrosas para el Forest Healer.
Process / Proceso
I began this artwork with a loose sketch to capture the intensity of the scene. I wanted their postures to feel dynamic and natural, as if frozen in a moment of movement and strength. Once I was happy with their expressions and body proportions, I refined the lines until both characters reflected that friendly yet competitive spark.
During the line art stage, I focused on clean, expressive strokes. The goal was to highlight the anatomy and the grip of their hands — the central point of energy in the piece. I enjoyed defining the muscles and facial expressions, ensuring the tension was palpable without losing the anime aesthetic I wanted.
When it came to coloring, I maintained the monochrome style typical of Inktober pieces, using varying shades of gray to build contrast. This gave the illustration a dramatic look while staying true to the challenge’s black-and-white theme.
Next, I worked on the shadows, which play a key role in adding depth and emotion. The light direction enhances their arms’ tension and the determination in their faces. For the highlights, I used them sparingly, placing them on the muscles and hair to bring a metallic glow to the grayscale palette.
Finally, I completed the background with a simple but textured grid pattern. This choice helped to emphasize the characters without overcrowding the scene. The background texture also created a sense of tension — as if they were in a competitive arena ready to prove their strength.
Comencé esta obra con un boceto suelto para capturar la intensidad de la escena. Quería que sus posturas se sintieran dinámicas y naturales, como si estuvieran congelados en un instante de fuerza y movimiento. Cuando estuve satisfecha con sus expresiones y proporciones, afiné las líneas hasta lograr que ambos reflejaran esa chispa amistosa pero competitiva.
En el delineado me concentré en trazos limpios y expresivos. Mi objetivo era resaltar la anatomía y el agarre de sus manos, el punto central de energía en la ilustración. Disfruté mucho definir los músculos y las expresiones faciales, asegurándome de que la tensión fuera palpable sin perder el estilo anime que buscaba.
Al momento de colorear, mantuve el estilo monocromático característico de Inktober, utilizando diferentes tonos de gris para crear contraste. Esto le dio a la obra un aspecto dramático y elegante, manteniéndose fiel al tema de blanco y negro del reto.
Luego trabajé en las sombras, que tienen un papel clave al añadir profundidad y emoción. La dirección de la luz resalta la tensión de los brazos y la determinación en sus rostros. En cuanto a los brillos, los usé con moderación, colocándolos en el cabello y los músculos para dar un brillo metálico al conjunto.
Finalmente, completé el fondo con un patrón cuadriculado simple pero con textura. Esta elección ayudó a centrar la atención en los personajes sin saturar la escena. Además, la textura del fondo contribuyó a generar una sensación de competencia, como si ambos estuvieran en una arena listos para medir su fuerza.

Creating this piece was a mix of laughter and admiration for these two characters. I love how art challenges us to see familiar figures in unexpected situations, and this one was definitely one of those moments. Whether you see it as Predator or Baki, I hope it made you smile just as much as it did for me.
