Hello everyone! I’m Lorentm, a digital artist, and I’m thrilled to welcome you to my art blog once again. Today I’m sharing a very special piece I created for @holozing’s Zingtober challenge, which has been an amazing experience so far. Each day brings a new theme, and for Day 22, the word is “Button.” This theme immediately sparked my imagination and led me to create something both nostalgic and eerie.
As soon as I read the prompt, I thought of Coraline, one of my favorite stop-motion films. The idea of characters with button eyes has always fascinated me — it’s both beautiful and unsettling at the same time. I wanted to merge that atmosphere with one of my favorite @holozing characters, the female Ocean Healer.
The Ocean Healer is a mysterious and gentle figure who embodies the energy of the sea. I imagined her as someone who draws her strength from the ocean’s depth, with a calm yet powerful aura. Bringing her into a darker, Coraline-inspired world felt like a perfect blend between whimsy and melancholy.
I truly enjoyed working on this monochromatic piece, exploring contrasts between light and shadow under the moonlight. I hope you can feel the same mysterious serenity I wanted to convey.
Hola a todos, soy Lorentm, una artista digital, y me emociona mucho darles la bienvenida nuevamente a mi blog de arte. Hoy quiero compartir con ustedes una obra muy especial que realicé para el desafío Zingtober de @holozing, el cual ha sido una experiencia increíble hasta ahora. Cada día trae una nueva palabra clave, y para el día 22 la palabra fue “Button”. Este tema encendió mi imaginación de inmediato y me llevó a crear algo nostálgico y un poco inquietante.
Al leer la palabra, lo primero que vino a mi mente fue Coraline, una de mis películas favoritas de stop motion. La idea de los personajes con ojos de botones siempre me ha fascinado; es algo tan bello como inquietante a la vez. Quise combinar esa atmósfera con uno de mis personajes favoritos de @holozing, la sanadora del océano femenina.
La Ocean Healer es una figura misteriosa y gentil que encarna la energía del mar. La imaginé como alguien que obtiene su fuerza de las profundidades del océano, con un aura serena pero poderosa. Traerla a un mundo más oscuro, inspirado en Coraline, me pareció una mezcla perfecta entre fantasía y melancolía.
Disfruté muchísimo trabajar en esta obra monocromática, explorando los contrastes entre la luz y la sombra bajo la luz de la luna. Espero que puedan sentir la serenidad misteriosa que quise transmitir.
In this illustration, the female Ocean Healer appears under a pale full moon, surrounded by tall, whispering pine trees. Her expression is calm but distant, as if she were lost between two worlds — the real one and the oceanic dream that gives her life. Her most striking feature, of course, is her button eyes, a symbolic nod to Coraline’s unsettling universe. They give her an almost doll-like stillness, which contrasts beautifully with her otherwise human features.
Her hair is short and slightly tousled, with a delicate headband made of seashells and small star-shaped charms — a direct connection to her marine essence. She wears a long coat that moves gently with the night breeze, over a turtleneck shirt bearing a subtle oceanic emblem. Her outfit is completed with a belt that defines her figure and adds a touch of realism to her silhouette. The monochromatic tones highlight every fold, creating a moody, dreamlike scene illuminated by the moon.
En esta ilustración, la Ocean Healer femenina aparece bajo una pálida luna llena, rodeada de altos pinos que susurran con el viento. Su expresión es serena pero distante, como si estuviera perdida entre dos mundos: el real y el onírico océano que le da vida. Su rasgo más llamativo, por supuesto, son sus ojos de botón, un guiño simbólico al inquietante universo de Coraline. Le dan una quietud casi de muñeca, que contrasta bellamente con sus rasgos humanos.

Process / Proceso
The first step was creating the sketch. I focused on defining her pose, expression, and clothing details, but I left the background for the final stage. I wanted to capture her essence first, making sure her face and body language reflected that mix of melancholy and calm strength before deciding on the surrounding environment.
El primer paso fue realizar el boceto. Me concentré en definir su pose, su expresión y los detalles de su vestimenta, pero dejé el fondo para la etapa final. Quise capturar primero su esencia, asegurándome de que su rostro y su lenguaje corporal reflejaran esa mezcla de melancolía y fuerza serena antes de decidir el entorno que la rodearía.
Next came the line art. This part required patience, as I traced each line carefully to keep the flow soft and organic. I paid special attention to her hair strands and the folds in her coat to make the design feel alive even before coloring.
Luego vino el delineado. Esta parte requirió mucha paciencia, ya que tracé cada línea con cuidado para mantener un flujo suave y orgánico. Presté especial atención a los mechones de su cabello y a los pliegues del abrigo, para que el diseño se sintiera con vida incluso antes de colorearlo.
Once the lines were complete, I moved on to coloring. Since I decided on a monochrome palette, I focused on balancing shades of gray to achieve depth. The goal was to evoke that eerie yet elegant feeling found in old black-and-white films.
Una vez terminado el delineado, pasé al coloreado. Como decidí usar una paleta monocromática, me concentré en equilibrar los tonos de gris para lograr profundidad. El objetivo era evocar esa sensación inquietante pero elegante de las viejas películas en blanco y negro.
After coloring, I added shadows to create volume and atmosphere. I placed the strongest shadows around her eyes and under her coat, emphasizing the mysterious nighttime setting.
Después del color, agregué las sombras para crear volumen y atmósfera. Coloqué las sombras más marcadas alrededor de sus ojos y bajo el abrigo, destacando el ambiente nocturno y misterioso.
Then I worked on the highlights. These small touches of light on her hair, face, and coat brought her to life, as if the moonlight were softly caressing her features.
Luego trabajé los brillos. Estos pequeños toques de luz en su cabello, rostro y abrigo le dieron vida, como si la luz de la luna acariciara suavemente sus rasgos.
Finally, I created the background. The moon, clouds, and silhouettes of pine trees were carefully blended to frame the character without taking attention away from her. The misty effect helped give a dreamy tone to the entire composition.
Finalmente, creé el fondo. La luna, las nubes y las siluetas de los pinos fueron cuidadosamente difuminadas para enmarcar al personaje sin restarle protagonismo. El efecto de niebla ayudó a darle un tono onírico a toda la composición.

Working on this piece was a deeply enjoyable experience. It allowed me to blend two worlds I love — the mystical universe of @holozing and the haunting aesthetic of Coraline. I’m really proud of how the final image turned out, capturing that delicate balance between beauty and eeriness.
Trabajar en esta obra fue una experiencia profundamente gratificante. Me permitió combinar dos mundos que amo: el universo místico de @holozing y la estética inquietante de Coraline. Estoy muy orgullosa de cómo resultó la imagen final, capturando ese delicado equilibrio entre lo bello y lo misterioso.
