This week I’m thrilled to share my entry for Day 7 of Zingtober, the annual black-and-white art challenge by @holozing. Hi everyone! I’m Lorentm, a digital artist who adores bringing stories to life through linework, light, and expression. For today’s prompt, “Starfish,” I decided to create a fun interpretation of the female Forest Healer — this time, attending a comic convention dressed in a Patrick Star costume.
This idea came from the thought of seeing such a serene and magical character embracing something funny and unexpected. The Forest Healer usually radiates calm and wisdom, but here she shows her bright and playful side. It was refreshing to mix fantasy with a touch of real-world humor.
Drawing her in monochrome tones helped emphasize her expression and details — every line had to speak for itself. Without color, the focus naturally shifted to her joyful pose and the warmth of her smile.

Soy Lorentm, una artista digital apasionada por dar vida a las historias a través del trazo, la luz y la expresión. Para la palabra clave de hoy, “Starfish”, decidí crear una versión divertida de la female Forest Healer, esta vez asistiendo a una convención de cómics con un disfraz de Patricio Estrella.
La idea surgió al imaginar a un personaje tan sereno y mágico adoptando algo gracioso y fuera de lo común. La Forest Healer suele irradiar calma y sabiduría, pero aquí muestra su lado más alegre y juguetón. Fue refrescante mezclar la fantasía con un toque de humor cotidiano.
Trabajar en tonos monocromáticos me permitió resaltar su expresión y cada detalle; sin color, cada línea debía transmitir emoción por sí sola. El foco se centra en su gesto feliz y la calidez que transmite su sonrisa.
Estoy profundamente agradecida con @acidyo y @holozing por apoyar continuamente a las artistas y por crear espacios donde podemos compartir libremente nuestra imaginación.
In this piece, the Forest Healer appears cheerful and animated. She wears a big, floppy hat shaped like Patrick Star’s head and a matching sweatshirt with his smiling face on it. Her long hair flows gracefully over her shoulders, balancing the comedic outfit with her usual gentle aura. Around her neck hangs a small flower pendant, a subtle reminder of her connection to nature even while she’s cosplaying.
The setting is a lively comic convention. Behind her, the stands marked “HOLOZING” and “COMICS” suggest a space full of creativity and community. The lights above illuminate the scene softly, while the tiled floor adds perspective and a sense of depth. Even though the image is monochrome, the contrast between lights and shadows creates a vibrant, almost cinematic atmosphere.
En esta obra, la Forest Healer aparece llena de alegría y energía. Lleva un gran gorro con la forma de la cabeza de Patricio Estrella y un suéter con su rostro sonriente. Su largo cabello cae con naturalidad sobre los hombros, equilibrando la comicidad del atuendo con su esencia serena. En su cuello lleva un colgante de flor, un pequeño recordatorio de su vínculo con la naturaleza, incluso en medio del cosplay.
El escenario es una animada convención de cómics. Detrás de ella se pueden ver los letreros de “HOLOZING” y “COMICS”, que evocan un ambiente lleno de creatividad y comunidad. Process / Proceso
I started with a rough sketch to establish the pose, proportions, and energy of the character. My goal was to capture her enthusiasm — a lively wave and a wide smile that felt spontaneous. This stage is all about finding rhythm and flow through simple strokes.
Once the composition felt balanced, I moved on to the lineart. I refined the outlines carefully, using clean, expressive lines to highlight her facial features, hair, and the folds of her clothing. In monochrome art, linework carries the emotion, so I paid special attention to its weight and direction.
Next came the shading phase. Instead of relying on color, I used layers of grayscale to define volume and atmosphere. Soft shadows brought her form to life, while darker tones around the background helped her figure stand out more clearly.
Then, I added highlights — gentle touches of light on her hair, face, and eyes. These subtle gleams gave her that sense of presence and liveliness that makes the drawing feel complete.
Finally, I worked on the background: the comic stands, the signs, and the ceiling lights. I kept the details readable but not overpowering, allowing the viewer’s attention to stay centered on her cheerful pose. Once everything was balanced, the piece felt alive even without a single drop of color.
Comencé con un boceto suelto para establecer la pose, las proporciones y la energía del personaje. Mi intención era capturar su entusiasmo, con un saludo animado y una sonrisa amplia que transmitiera espontaneidad. Esta etapa se basa en encontrar el ritmo y el flujo del dibujo con trazos simples.
Una vez que la composición estuvo equilibrada, pasé al delineado. Afiné los contornos con cuidado, usando líneas limpias y expresivas para resaltar sus rasgos, el cabello y los pliegues de la ropa. En una obra monocromática, el trazo es el alma de la expresión, así que cuidé mucho el peso y la dirección de cada línea.
Luego llegó la fase de sombreado. En lugar de depender del color, utilicé diferentes tonos de gris para definir el volumen y la atmósfera. Las sombras suaves dieron vida a su forma, mientras que los tonos más oscuros en el fondo ayudaron a que el personaje destacara con claridad.
Después añadí los brillos: pequeñas pinceladas de luz en su cabello, rostro y ojos. Esos destellos sutiles aportaron profundidad y vitalidad, haciendo que la ilustración cobrara emoción propia.
Finalmente, trabajé el fondo: los stands de cómics, los letreros y las luces del techo. Busqué mantener un equilibrio entre detalle y simplicidad, de modo que el entorno acompañara sin distraer. Cuando todo se unió, la pieza cobró vida incluso sin una sola gota de color.

Creating this piece reminded me how powerful black-and-white art can be. Without the distraction of color, emotion shines through form, light, and contrast. Seeing the Forest Healer embrace such a playful moment made me smile — she embodies joy in its purest form.
Zingtober continues to challenge and inspire me each day, pushing my creativity further. I want to thank once again @acidyo and @holozing for supporting artists and keeping the spark of inspiration alive within our community.
