ZINGTOBER Day 09 — HEAVY Typography (ZINGU)

Hey everyone, it’s me again with my INKTOBER 2025 post! This one’s still hosted by @holozing. Feel free to check the full details at the link: ZINGTOBER2025

Today, I can’t believe it’s already day 9 of October, and the theme this time is HEAVY. Yep, just like the theme, the character I picked totally fits the vibe—Zingu!

As usual, I started with the basic shape sketch. I used a reference image of Zingu to build the main form, making sure everything stayed proportional and true to his character.

This time, the shape is symmetrical, which is great because it means I didn’t have to draw both sides from scratch. I just focused on one side first, then mirrored it for the other. To keep things neat, I used the WELD feature to merge all the shapes into one solid piece. It felt so satisfying to see the figure come together—dense and strong, like Zingu’s muscles ready to lift some serious weight!

Once the sketch was done, I moved on to the most exciting part: working with the letters. Since the theme is “HEAVY,” I wanted the word itself to look bold and carry a strong visual weight. So I placed the word HEAVY right at the front, also on the barbell Zingu is holding. The effect was instant—the word became the main highlight and blended perfectly with the overall concept.

After shaping all the letters and facial details, I jumped into the clean-up phase: removing guide lines and refining small details for a cleaner result.

Then, as usual, I added a black background and turned all the colorful text into white. The contrast immediately made Zingu pop and look more alive.

And the final result? Zingu looks like he’s struggling hard to lift that insanely heavy barbell! There’s tension but also a hint of humor in his expression. Personally, I’m quite happy with how it turned out—simple, but it really captures that “heavy” feeling.

What do you think? Does my typography version of Zingu feel “HEAVY” enough?
