My Entry for the "Love The Clouds" Contest
Sometimes the simplest setups are enough to create an expressive image. For this setup I used the following tools for the illumination: A large flashlight, a small flashlight and a fog machine,. In front of the small flashlight I attached a red foil and a butterfly stencil to create a butterfly shadow through the backlight. The big flashlight I positioned behind the model and attached an orange foil to make the model look like the coming death, I put a black cloth around his hips and used a thick rope as a belt. The scythe I made from a wooden stick and a cardboard which I cut as a sickle. The shooting process was also quite simple. Model in position, fog machine on, lights off, start long exposure. Each flashlight once shortly flashed in positon and ready. After several shots we had to realize that the first shot was the best.
Lightpainting is a photographic technique in which exposures are made by moving a hand-held light source while taking a long exposure photograph, either to illuminate a subject or to shine a point of light directly at the camera, or by moving the camera itself during exposure. Nothing is added or removed in post processing.
