Buying Casinos and Music Stores On DCity

image.png

I wrote earlier that I have 50 jobs to create in my city and in order to do so, I have been looking at buying some income producing buildings. I rushed to buy some Music Stores since the bid/ask spread wasn't so wide.

Then for Casinos, I put in a bid and they just got filled. Interestingly, the seller settled for even less than I asked. At least that's my understanding of the transaction since I got a refund on the bid:

It was a surprise to me but because the population increased with the music stores, the excess number of workers didn't decrease by as much as I expected with 5 music stores and 3 casinos. I believe that's because the music stores increased the population and so the net effect on workers wasn't as much.

With more casinos, that means more Gamer tokens as well although I am not sure what they're good for.

Music stores and casino don't give new citizens, but they increase your popularity. And total population depends on your popularity. When you need to reduce unemployment, you must choose cards with low popularity. It's actually quite easy to compute with an excel spreadsheet.
Be aware that casino increase crime rate too.

I see... so if population increases, does that mean that there's no need to buy individual worker cards?
Ah, that explains the increased crime rate. I was wondering what happened to increase that.

In fact you don't really need workers, citizens are enough to fill a job position. You can use either homes, luxury homes and apartments to increase your population.
( I don't say worker cards are not useful but the other cards give SIM returns in addition to the population increase)

Oh wow... mind blown. All this while I thought we needed worker cards.

By the way, you can compute the effect of the popularity effect as well.
The dcity website tells that the popularity increases population like this :
bonus = ( popularity ^ 0.68 ) * 100 (in %)
So the total population would be : base_pop * ( 1 + ( popularity ^ 0.68 ) )

The exponant value was recently reduced : it used to be ( popularity ^ 0.7 ).
The change is not much but it had a big impact on my population, and left me with many empty job positions.

I see... that's what must have happened when I commented that my city started needing like 50 workers all of a sudden.

I found this on the discord.

I did not look at the discord for quite a while ^^ It's been a busy month at work and I enjoyed NOT spending time on my computer :D
