Some time ago I told you that I love etymology, and this reflection stems from the etymology of one word in particular: Via, which comes from the Latin via or vea in its primitive form. This means way, path, or way of doing something. From there, I believe, comes the phrase Aut viam inveniam aut faciam, "I will find a way, or I will make one."
For me, this phrase expresses absolute determination in the face of obstacles. It's not just a simple motivational idea, but a principle of action.
It means that if the route, the way to a goal, doesn't exist, we can't stop; we have to build it. The alternative is to remain still, waiting for someone else to chart the course for us, and that's not a viable option for anyone who truly wants to achieve something.
Life isn't a map with all the streets drawn; it's often virgin territory where we have to be our own cartographers.
This phrase represents, above all, an active, creative, and decisive attitude toward difficulties. It's not passive. It doesn't wait for solutions to appear on their own.
When you face a problem without an obvious solution, you have two options: give up or invent a new way to solve it. Choosing the latter is adopting this mindset.
It's using creativity not as a luxury, but as a tool for survival and progress. It's deciding that your ingenuity and effort will be the building blocks of your own progress.
Furthermore, this phrase reminds us that true strength and solutions arise when we stop waiting for perfect conditions to do something, like having a child or starting a project. Those perfect conditions rarely exist.
If you wait for the ideal moment, full funding, or an absolute guarantee of success, you'll never take the first step. History is written by those who acted despite uncertainty, not those who waited for it to disappear.
Life rarely offers clear paths. But those with unwavering will see every obstacle as an opportunity to forge a way out. The obstacle ceases to be an end point and becomes the starting point for a new solution.
Those who move forward, even if they have to forge their own path, develop an indestructible character. Each difficulty overcome in this way not only solves an immediate problem but also strengthens self-confidence for the next challenge.
Therefore, this phrase is, in essence, a declaration of courage: if there is no path, I will forge it myself. It is the rejection of powerlessness and the affirmation of one's own capabilities.

Hace un tiempo les dije que me encanta la etimología y de la de una palabra en específico, nace esta reflexión: Vía, que proviene del latín via o vea en su forma primitiva. Esto significa, vía, camino o modo de hacer algo. De ahí, creo, nace la frase Aut viam inveniam aut faciam «Encontraré un camino, o haré uno».
Para mí, esta frase expresa una determinación absoluta ante los obstáculos. No se trata de una simple idea motivadora, sino de un principio de acción.
Significa que si la ruta, la vía hacia un objetivo no existe, no podemos detenernos, tenemos que construirla. La alternativa es quedarnos quietos, esperando que alguien más trace la ruta por nosotros, y eso no es una opción viable para quien realmente quiere lograr algo.
La vida no es un mapa con todas las calles dibujadas; a menudo es un terreno virgen donde tenemos que ser nuestros propios cartógrafos.
Esta frase representa, ante todo, una actitud activa, creativa y decidida frente a las dificultades. No es pasiva. No espera a que las soluciones lleguen por sí solas.

Por eso, esta frase es, en esencia, una declaración de coraje: si no hay camino, lo forjaré yo. Es la negación de la impotencia y la afirmación de la capacidad propia.
Esa es la mentalidad que debemos tener siempre, la de decir que podemos y vamos a lograrlo. No es una cuestión de fe ciega, sino de una elección consciente.
