Greetings, HIVE friends. The initiative of @damarysvibra has shaken me, because one of the things that gives me the greatest pleasure is to be resolute. Since I was a child I always felt an extraordinary inclination to get involved in problem solving, I think I inherited this to a great extent from my parents, who were fighters and always looked for alternatives to everything that came their way. But it was in the eighties when I had to deploy all my energies for this purpose.
At that time in Cuba the conditions were favorable for the construction of houses, my eldest daughter was very young, so we decided to build our own house. The first thing my wife and I did was to diagnose the situation: we needed a house, we worked more than thirty kilometers away; we depended on a salary and we had a little girl. I did not know anything about masonry (I am a teacher), the budget was not enough to buy materials and pay for labor, so I decided to take the risk and learn.
Tuve suerte, pues un cuñado que es para mí un hermano, por su comportamiento en toda la vida. Él es albañil y me fue enseñando, además, siempre que podía me acompañaba. Así me fui independizando hasta en el acabado, instalaciones hidráulicas, sanitarias y electricas. Recuerdo las intensas jornadas, siempre con el apoyo de mi esposa, quien constantemente buscaba la forma de ayudarme. Cuando nació mi hija menor todavía estábamos enfrascados en la construcción y tuvimos que intensificar los esfuerzos.
Considero que además de la necesidad y la asesoría de mi cuñado, me ayudó mucho lo aprendido en la asignatura de Educación Laboral, en la cual tuve excelentes profesores. A esta asignatura también debo las habilidades en la solución de problemas que se presentan frecuentemente en el hogar, entre los cuales puedo mencionar algunos:
I was lucky, because I had a brother-in-law who is like a brother to me, because of his behavior throughout my life. He is a bricklayer and taught me, and whenever he could, he always accompanied me. So I became independent even in the finishing, hydraulic, sanitary and electrical installations. I remember the intense days, always with the support of my wife, who was constantly looking for ways to help me. When my youngest daughter was born, we were still engaged in the construction and we had to intensify our efforts.
I believe that in addition to the need and the advice of my brother-in-law, I was greatly helped by what I learned in the subject of Labor Education, in which I had excellent teachers. To this subject I also owe the skills in solving problems that frequently arise at home, among which I can mention a few:
Hace algún tiempo se rompió la olla arrocera y la llevé al taller, se le había ido el fusible, el técnico empató los cables (ya saben 50 pesos). Transcurrido un tiempo ¡humo y olor a cable quemado! Efectivamente al no tener fusible ocurre eso. Tomé el filamento de un cable, para que cuando haya un recalentamiento haga la función del fusible que no hay; para evitar faso contacto en el empalme, uní los cables utilizando dos “perritos”, y solucioné el problema.
- Some time ago the rice cooker broke and I took it to the workshop, the fuse had gone, the technician tied the wires (you know 50 pesos). After a while, smoke and the smell of burnt cable! Indeed, since there is no fuse, this happens. I took the filament of a cable, so that when there is an overheating it will do the function of the fuse that is not there; to avoid bad contact in the splice, I joined the cables using two "little dogs", and I solved the problem.
Recientemente, se partió el cuchillo de la cocina, como es el más práctico para esas labores, era necesario buscar una solución; lo mejor sería comprar otro, pero según el diagnóstico realizado, no era posible. Opté entonces por tomar mis herramientas y hacerlo más pequeño, pero muy práctico.
- Recently, the kitchen knife broke, as it is the most practical knife for these tasks, it was necessary to find a solution; the best thing would be to buy another one, but according to the diagnosis made, it was not possible. I decided to take my tools and make it smaller, but very practical.
La tostadora dejó de funcionar, la abrí, localicé el cable partido y solucioné el problema.

En fin, de esta forma constantemente doy solución a los problemas que se van presentando: coser zapatos o zapatillas cuando se despegan, reparar sombrillas, poner en tiempo la máquina de coser, y otras cosas.
La iniciativa solicita que se haga alguna recomendación al respecto, y a mi modesto modo de ver, opino que lo más importante radica en el interés que uno ponga en buscar soluciones, el cual suele ser espoleado no solo por los deseos de aprender, sino también por la necesidad. ¡Importante!: delimitar bien hasta dónde llegan las posibilidades reales para solucionar un problema; así se evitan frustraciones.

The initiative asks for a recommendation in this regard, and in my humble opinion, the most important thing lies in the interest that one puts in seeking solutions, which is usually spurred not only by the desire to learn, but also by the need. Important: to delimit well how far the real possibilities to solve a problem reach; thus avoiding frustrations.
