Este tipo de pensamientos son los que por lo general venían a mi cabeza una y otra vez. Qué sencillo es compararte con la vida de los demás y juzgarte por no haber alcanzado a estas alturas todo lo que ellos tienen. Te torturas y autosaboteas una y otra vez, sintiéndote frustrado y estancado.

These kinds of thoughts are the ones that usually came to my mind over and over again. How easy it is to compare yourself to other people's lives and judge yourself for not having achieved by now everything they have. You torture and self-sabotage yourself over and over again, feeling frustrated and stagnant.
Todo comenzó en la universidad, cuando observaba que algunos compañeros tenían mejores notas o se graduaban primero. Al escuchar comentarios de mis familiares diciendo que “la hija de Carmen se graduó y tiene tu misma edad”, son palabras que en ese momento eran difíciles de manejar. No los culpo, para ellos era su manera de darme ánimos para seguir, para motivarme a acelerar el paso.
Con el paso de los años comprendí que nuestra línea del tiempo en este mundo está bien, que la vida no se trata de una carrera. Nuestra mente se encarga muchas veces de sabotearnos haciéndonos creer que no vamos acorde al tiempo establecido para graduarnos, casarnos, tener hijos, tener una buena estabilidad económica…
It all started in college, when I observed that some classmates had better grades or graduated first. Hearing comments from my relatives saying that "Carmen's daughter graduated and she is the same age as you", are words that at that time were difficult to handle. I don't blame them, for them it was their way of encouraging me to keep going, to motivate me to pick up the pace.
As the years went by I understood that our timeline in this world is fine, that life is not about a race. Our mind is often in charge of sabotaging us, making us believe that we are not on schedule to graduate, get married, have children, have a good economic stability...
No se trata de una carrera, todos vamos a nuestro ritmo y eso está bien. No les voy a negar que existen días en los que me comparo con alguien más (las redes sociales suelen engañarnos) pero basta con tener las herramientas para darnos una sacudida de esos pensamientos intrusivos que llegan a nosotros para bajarnos el ánimo y provocarnos ansiedad.
Me gusta mirar atrás solo para observar todo lo que he avanzado, lo que he superado, de esta manera no olvido cada uno de mis logros por muy pequeños que sean, sin importar el tiempo que me tomó llegar a ellos y con la certeza que podré lograr todas mis metas sin necesidad de estar obsesionada con el paso de los años.
It's not a race, we all go at our own pace and that's okay. I will not deny that there are days when I compare myself with someone else (social networks often deceive us) but it is enough to have the tools to give us a jolt of those intrusive thoughts that come to us to lower our spirits and cause us anxiety.
I like to look back just to observe all that I have advanced, what I have overcome, this way I do not forget each of my achievements no matter how small they are, no matter how long it took me to reach them and with the certainty that I can achieve all my goals without the need to be obsessed with the passing of the years.
Si te ha pasado esto en algún momento, déjame decirte que no estás solo. Es completamente normal tener esa costumbre de comparar nuestro tiempo con el de los demás, es parte de lo que la sociedad nos ha inculcado y muchas veces es difícil sacar de raíz esos paradigmas, pero claro está, no es imposible.
Un paso a la vez, vive a tu ritmo, disfruta la travesía, la meta llegará en el momento exacto, ni más ni menos. Me gusta pensar que todo tiene un propósito en esta vida y en muchas ocasiones nos frustramos tanto por no tener lo que queremos, cuando lo queremos, que nos agobia pensar que no pasará. Cuantas veces nos hemos repetido…Qué bueno que paso ahora y no cuando quería.
Un podcast que me ha ayudado con este tema es el de "Despertando Podcast" son episodios cortos pero de un valor impresionante, digamos que es un tesoro que descubrí para escuchar cada mañana y ahora lo comparto con ustedes.
