Street Photography with 18mm.
There are many ways to approach street photography, when you search on the web you will find that the ideal lenses are fixed lenses, for example: 28mm, 35mm, 50mm. These lenses are very bright and usually have apertures of 2.8, 1.4 depending on the lens. However, I think you can do street photography with other types of equipment and yesterday I wanted to do a test with an 18-55mm kit lens, but only at 18mm, no zoom.
I was walking through the Belgrano neighborhood in the city of Buenos Aires and I had my camera with me. So I thought... Let's see how this goes.
I didn't try to look for good angles or walk much, I just photographed what was around me. Some good shady spots helped me for some shots.
This is the McDonald's in the area, it is on a corner and I liked how the people waiting to cross the avenue remain in shadows while the focus is on the buildings.
From another angle, in the same corner you can see one of the subway stations, the pedestrian crossing and other buildings in the background.
This photo is in the same place as the first photo, only I turned around. It's a residential and school area with many trees.
One of the benefits that I think this lens has is that you can photograph buildings and get good angles and perspectives. There are other lenses such as angle lenses and fisheye that make these types of shots even more interesting, but this lens is good for architecture, I think.
While I was going back I took this photo in another part of the avenue, there is a church right here. This man was sitting there and I thought it was a good idea to include him in the frame, so excuse me, sir.
Some Black and White Shots.
A mini series of 3 black and white photos to complement this post and thus give it more variety. When I took this photo I automatically thought about the absence of colors and taking advantage of the shadows around and the light hitting these buildings directly.
I also usually do this when I see that you can see textures, shapes, geometries and other aspects. In this building you can see some of this in the balconies and windows.
An old window that is part of the church I previously mentioned. When I was referring to the textures it was for this shot in particular 👇🏻
This is the church, I was standing in front of it and it was very close, with the lens I decided to take a low angle photo trying to incorporate the entire structure into the frame. You can see some of the statues, the tower and the clock, as well as part of the trees in the area.
One of the buildings next to this cathedral, I don't remember if it is a government school.
AXION... One of the gas stations and other buildings in the background. Yes, there are a lot of cables there.
Do you remember the black and white building where the lines, balconies and windows stood out? This is the same one only now in color and from another angle.
This is one of the most interesting shots I perceive, just before crossing the avenue, at the metrobus station. A good idea to incorporate buildings, architecture in combination with vegetation.
To finish I decided to take different photos where I focus on a simple security cone at the gas station and on the other hand the bark of one of the trees in the area, thinking about the texture. In both photos you can see a pretty decent bokeh, nice and taking into account that all this was taken only in 18mm.
Many people throw away these lenses when they have bought better ones, I still believe that they have their function and that they can be used to their advantage :)

Almost everyone says things about our goods 18-55mm lens... They call it the "paperweight", "learning lens", "better than having nothing", I even have a friend who has the audacity to call it "the cover of the sensor"... It seems to me that these things are just myths and legends, this lens serves to do many things very well and these photos which you share today demonstrate it... I have even compared RAW photos of this lens with one taken immediately with my 35mm prime lens and the differences at f/5 aperture are almost non-existent... Excellent street work as always @dimascastillo90 friend...
