If I could set these lines you are about to read to music, I would do it with "Everything In Its Right Place" by Radiohead. It is simply perfect and has an inexplicably introspective aura. Perhaps, it is the precise soundtrack, in order to give tangibility to the intangible... I decided to upload this post precisely because I was next to one of the women I love the most, and who chooses to be by my side. Breaking the routine is essential in couples but it can also be beautiful.
I had to run some errands. I had to travel briefly, from my city (San Diego) to the capital of the state where I live, Valencia, Carabobo. I told my girlfriend to accompany me, and right there my planning ended. I got what I came for; the goal of my outing away from home, and then I just let myself go. Walking with the woman I love is something that although it seems simple and unimportant, it can be really majestic and comforting.
Si pudiera musicalizar estas líneas que están a punto de leer, lo haría con "Everything In Its Right Place" por Radiohead. Es sencillamente perfecta y tiene un aura inexplicablemente introspectiva. Quizá, sea el soundtrack preciso, para poder darle tangibilidad a lo intangible... Decidí subir esta publicación, precisamente porque estaba al lado de una de las mujeres que más amo, y que decide estar a mí lado. Romper la rutina es esencial en las parejas pero también puede ser hermoso.
Tenía que hacer unas diligencias. Viajar brevemente, desde mi ciudad (San Diego) hacia la capital del estado a donde resido, Valencia, Carabobo. Le dije a mí novia que me acompañara, y justo allí terminó mi planificación. Conseguí lo que fui a buscar; el objetivo de mi salida fuera de casa, y luego sólo me dejé llevar. Caminar junto a la mujer que amo es algo que aunque parezca sencillo y sin importancia, puede ser realmente majestuoso y reconfortante.
Bolivar Avenue is the largest street in terms of dimensions, kilometres and length in the whole city of Valencia. It is gigantic. It connects, almost in its entirety, one end of the city with very large parts of the city, and even, in its northern section, with another locality called Naguanagua; another municipality. I, together with my girl, walked along long stretches of the southern part of this extensive location. From time to time we stopped to take some pictures, the light was perfect.
As there are so many trees, in almost all the area that borders the Avenue, the light is almost ideal. It doesn't bounce directly off the surface, but is projected quite attenuated when it hits the branches of the trees and the surrounding buildings. Such conditions are idyllic for taking photographs patiently, while you are walking and enjoying a little of the beauty that lies in the urban chaos.
La Avenida Bolívar, es la calle más grande en dimensiones, kilómetros y recorrido de toda la ciudad de Valencia. Es gigantesca. Conecta, casi en su totalidad, a un extremo de la ciudad con amplísimas partes de la misma, e incluso, deriva en su tramo norte con otra localidad de nombre Naguanagua; otro municipio. Yo, junto a mi chica, anduve recorriendo largos tramos de la zona sur de esa extensa locación. De vez en cuando parábamos para tomar alguna fotografía, la luz era perfecta.Al tener tantos árboles, en casi toda la superficie que colinda con la Avenida, la luz es casi ideal. Pues no rebota directamente con la superficie, sino que se proyecta bastante atenuada al impactar con las ramas de los árboles y las edificaciones circundantes. Esas condiciones resultan idílicas para poder hacer fotografías con paciencia, mientras estás caminando y disfrutando un poco la belleza que se halla en el caos urbano.

She said something along the lines of "We should take some pictures around this place". While these were excellent ideas, I didn't do it (choose the subject of photographing buildings) for two reasons, the first being technical. Secondly, I decided to make her the main character of the whole story.En este sentido, mi novia, que es alguien con una docilidad que conmueve, me sugirió varias veces deternos para poder apreciar cómo la luz caía en algunos edificios. Me dijo algo así como "Deberíamos tomar algunas fotos por este lugar". Si bien, eran ideas excelentes, no lo hice (elegir el tema de la fotografía de edificios) por dos motivos, el primero de ellos, técnico. El segundo, que decidí que ella fuese la protagonista de toda la historia.
Photographs From My Own AuthorshipOne of the things she loves to do most is to eat ice cream. And I took her to the Olympia ice cream parlour. Which, for those who don't know, is a place in Valencia that has been making ice cream since 1958. Without a doubt, and without exaggeration, it is the oldest ice cream parlour in the whole state, and one of the most iconic in Venezuela. One of those hidden treasures that every city keeps for itself.... I took her there, we ordered, sat down and I started taking pictures...Sometimes, the simplest thing is what surprises and impacts us the most. I insist, none of what I describe was a plan. It only came about after we had finished the errands that gave justification to our little trip. Otherwise, the afternoon was ours, and I think we decided to make the best of it. We were even able to capture the only gothic-style Catholic church in the city. Again, treasures to be explored on foot and with exceptional company.Una de las cosas que más ama hacer (ella) es comer helados. Y la llevé a la heladería Olympia. Que para quienes no lo saben, es un lugar en Valencia, que hace helados desde 1958. Sin lugar a duda, y sin ánimos de exagerar, es la heladería más antigua de todo el estado, y una de las más icónicas de Venezuela. Uno de esos tesoros escondidos, que toda ciudad guarda para sí misma... La llevé, ordenamos, nos sentamos y comencé a sacar fotografías...A veces, lo más sencillo es lo que más nos sorprende e impacta. Insisto, nada de lo que describo era un plan. Sólo surgió después de haber terminado las diligencias que dieron justificación a nuestro pequeño viaje. De resto, la tarde era nuestra, y creo que decidimos sacarle el mejor provecho posible. Incluso, pudimos capturar en imagen a la única iglesia católica de estilo gótico que hay en la ciudad. De nuevo, tesoros que se recorren a pie y con una compañía excepcional.

Stopping to photograph the beauty we came across and enjoying the taste of an ice cream in a historic place, all in the afternoon hours softened by the filtered light of trees with more years in that place than human beings who remember them, what can I say? Sometimes you just have to surrender to how wonderful the unexpected sense of joy and peace can be.Finally, I wanted to pay tribute to a very famous painting, from which I have taken inspiration. Both for the composition and also for the angulation. And yes, I am referring to the painting entitled "The Wayfarer before the Sea of Fog" by Caspar Friedrich David, which is the most faithful representation of the trend of individualism, both in art and in philosophy. And no, I'm not trying to sound pretentious, it's simply a historical context to explain the luck I had at the time of taking the cover photo of this post.Una mujer que me ama, romper la monotonía al simplemente cogerla de la mano y caminar. Deternos para fotografiar la belleza que nos topábamos y disfrutar del sabor de un helado en un lugar histórico, todo en horas de una tarde suavizada por la luz filtrada de árboles con más años en ese lugar que seres humanos que les recuerden ¿Qué les puedo decir? En ocasiones, toca sólo rendirse ante lo maravillosa que puede ser la inesperada sensación de alegría y paz.Finalmente, quise rendir tributo a un cuadro muy famoso, del cual he cogido inspiración. Tanto para la composición, como también para la angulación. Y sí, me refiero al cuadro titulado "El caminante ante el mar de niebla" de Caspar Friedrich David, y que es la representación más fiel de la corriente del individualismo, tanto en el arte como en la filosofía. Y no, no trato de leerme pretencioso, es simplemente un contexto histórico para explicar la suerte que tuve en el momento de hacer la foto de la portada de este post.
