Imagine this scenario. It's afternoon, and you board a boat in the historic port of an ancient city in the Caribbean, then you sail overnight to another port in another ancient city, where you arrive the next day. The boat has all the amenities you could want including food, drink, and lodging. In a private cabin, you can watch the sunset and spend the starry night then wake up to the majestic views of the Atlantic at sunrise as the boat glides into the old port.
Adventurous and romantic!
But what happens if there's a special event in the city the day of your departure, and the ferry is canceled?
If your schedule doesn't allow a change in itinerary, then all you might collect are some memories of the boat, if you happen come across it by chance. Perhaps while you were touring an ancient fort a few days prior to your canceled departure.
By chance, you might arrive when the boat is about to depart for that day's sailing. You might hear upbeat tropical music on that boat as it prepares to leave, and it will make you think of what could have been if you had been able to book for the next departure. From the top of that old fort, you'll see people onboard the ferry dancing, waving goodbye, thrilled to be going on an adventure to that other ancient city in the night.
Lastly, you might see the boat slide gently out of the harbour, blow its horn, and disappear beyond the horizon to the fading sound of reggaeton beats.
It was not to be in this timeline! But that's alright, you'll think to yourself, there's always a plane.
