A través de la ventana.
Through the window [English Version]
It was as if looking into his eyes was the end of my life.
A week ago, for work reasons, I had to travel to this small town, which is not so far from the city, but there is a considerable distance to cross to get here. As I started my trip, the driver kept telling me stories and urban legends of the town I was coming to, but at a certain point, I fell asleep and did not wake up until we arrived at the place. I thought I saw a hint of concern in his eyes, but I know that townspeople have so many stigmas, that I decided to ignore him.
I had prepared a small cabin in which I was going to stay for the whole week that I was going to be here, it was a little rudimentary, but it had enough to cover my basic needs and to be comfortable, which was what mattered most to me.
The first three days passed normally, I went to the interviews, stopped by the café to buy something and went home to rest. On the fourth day, when I arrived at the café and ordered the same dish, a mysterious guy entered the store, whom the waiter did not see looking good. I thought it was an interesting situation to investigate and I approached the gentleman and asked him for a short interview for my report.
—You shouldn't talk to strangers in places that are new to you, miss, what assures you that I am not one of those strange mysteries that you have come to decipher? —I asked while sipping a sip of coffee, then continued commenting,— "Many things are said about this town, but you should be careful, because no one warns you about what happens when you see through the window.
Although I tried to continue talking to the guy and get him to explain what he meant by looking through the window, I couldn't get any more answers from him, so I decided to go back to my table and take the opportunity to ask the waiter what he meant.
—I don't recommend that you do it between 10 and 11 o'clock, because he will be waiting for you to do it, and then there will be no turning back. —The waiter commented with a mysterious tone, but just like the previous guy, after that he didn't want to give any more answers.
Arriving at the cabin that night, the tiredness took over me and I came directly to rest, to replenish energy and continue with my work the next day. I only had 3 more nights left in this place.
The next day passed normally, and I took the opportunity to ask some of my interviewees if they knew anything about what that man was talking about, I received certain comments like "avoid standing in front of the window", "everyone knows you are new in the area", "once you see him you will not be able to leave here", but whenever I tried to get them to tell me something else, it was as if their mind was completely erased and then they did not talk to me again.
That afternoon I arrived at the café and the usual waiter was not there, so I was served by another person, a younger one, but I decided not to ask more about it, I had already seen how weird they got when I asked them about it. That night I got home, turned on the TV and forgot about everything, I decided to rest, at last, there were only 2 more nights left here.
On the sixth night, I heard something strange coming from the street, I stopped what I was doing and looked out to see what was going on, not a soul was to be seen, everything was quiet and when I looked at my watch I saw that it was already past 11 pm, so it was time to rest
On the seventh day, I finished doing the interviews, and before going to the café, I saw the same man from a few days ago standing at the door, with a smile that made my hair stand on end, so I decided that day I was going to go home to prepare my bags, it was time to get out of this small town and the people with their unfinished legends.
When I got home, I saw that the young waiter from the cafeteria was sitting outside, he looked a little nervous, it seemed that something was wrong with him. When he saw me, his eyes met mine and he said:
—It's the last night, please remain cautious and you can escape. If you don't make it, you won't be able to leave. — He said before running away and getting out of my sight.
I was tired of hearing the same old, incoherent sentences and not getting any answers. So I didn't give the matter any more thought and I was grateful that I would be leaving tomorrow.
I confirmed my departure with the driver, finished arranging my bags, uploaded my results to the cloud and sat down to watch TV before going to sleep, I looked at the clock and it was 9.30 pm.
Suddenly, a blackout, apparently it had affected the whole town. I could only see darkness.
I hear voices outside the house as if they were starting to call me, I decide to go to the window and suddenly all the things I had been told during the week started to echo, but I decided to calm my thoughts and stay sitting where I was. Maybe it was time to go to sleep.
Suddenly, all the lights in town came on, except for the lights in the cabin, I wondered if it was a technical problem. But then I heard my name being called from outside, and I decided to go to the window to see what was going on.
I was surprised to see the whole town outside my house, and they were all watching me at this moment. I could only feel confused, then the clock in the living room rang and marked that 10pm had arrived, and I could see in the crowd, that strange man from the cafeteria, who had his back turned
And at the stroke of 10 o'clock, he turned to look at me.
