¡Ayúdame, Mazinger Z!/ Help me, Mazinger Z!

If there is an age to believe in heroes, that age is childhood. It is not only innocence, but also imagination. Lucas, an 8-year-old boy, had an extraordinary imagination and an innocence that only angels have. Not to mention that his long hours in front of the television promoted the curiosity and creativity of those years.

His favorite anime was Mazinger Z, it was his hero, the one who could defeat all the villains. His fanaticism was so great that it was not enough to watch that robot on the small screen, he also had toys, figurines and even a T-shirt with the image of this hero, which had been given to him on one of his birthdays.

I was his psychologist at the time. His mother had brought him to my office because it seemed to her that the attachment Lucas had developed with Mazinger Z was threatening to get out of control: "He not only sleeps with his doll, he also eats with it, plays with it, takes it to school and I've even found him talking to it when I turn around," his mother told me the first time she took him.

At first I made him see that it was normal for Lucas, at that age, to have such a fanaticism for a television character. However, as I went through Lucas' things and talked to him, I noticed something strange going on. Lucas, in one session, naively told me that whenever he needed help, he would call out to his hero, "Help me, Mazinger Z." When I asked him why he was asking for help, Lucas answered with all the innocence in the world: "Because the bad guys want to kill me."

Saludos.
