Life didn't come with a manual and this is what David soon realized when the events of life started passing him by and he was helpless to the event of it.
David is the only child and he used that as an opportunity to live his life without caution. He always feel that everything would come to him without him stressing about it. Can you blame him? He is the only child of a wealthy man, so he is used to having his way. He had the best of everything so much that he would never take a no for an answer from anyone.
Life can deal a harsh blow on anyone and those you think would always be there for you won't always be there for you because people change their loyalty when they have stopped receiving favours from a particular quarter. People's loyalty can be bought and they give it to those who offer more. It's always about what they can get and never about what they can give.
Events soon changed for David when his father and mother got involved in a plane crash. He was 18 when it happened and even though he felt devastated about it, he consoled himself with the fact that they have the best of everything and his parents set him up already, nice too. It was after the burial that family members started showing their ugly heads and most people lay claim to whatever their hands can get. They were not done coming to make their pick when the lawyers and bankers came around to inform everyone that they would have to dispose of the house, cars and the extra two houses because the father is indebted to the bank. Even though he wasn't due to pay yet but since he is deceased, they can't take any chance with their money.
What happened was that the father got duped after he was told to come and invest in an oil well. It came from a close family friend so he didn't suspect anything and he invested everything he had with the possibility of getting thrice his investment. "Investment is always a risk. You never know which one would work out." That was what he told his lawyer when he questioned him about it.
"Do you know how that would sound if you do that?" That was his other response to his lawyer when he told him that he would like to go and inspect the place first before investing. He didn't want the lawyer to go because it would signal a lack of trust from him to his family friend. It was after he died that the lawyer took it upon himself to visit the location of the oil well, only to get there and nothing was existing there. He went to the family friend only to notice they have sold their house and left the country with no trace in sight. The lawyer further went to the bank with the hope of buying more time since his client is no longer alive but the bank wouldn't have any of it.
They sold the houses and the cars and it took only the intervention of the lawyer who took David in because no one wanted to have anything with him. They used to be very close to him when his dad was alive. They have asked him to speak favourably to his dad for them to get the favour they sought which he did countless times and now, when he is in need, family and friends all fled, except the lawyer.
It was a harsh reality of life for David and he is left with adapting to a life he has never been used to. Reality would hit him hard and he is left all alone to make a family of another family. He didn't see it coming and he felt life would always be what he has been exposed to. Just when we think we understand life, a lot happens to change our understanding of life. Those you think would be there for you won't always be there for you and those you overlooked might be the only person closest to having a family that you would have.
Life is about planning and when we don't plan, take caution and think of the future, life has a way of surprising us.

La vida no viene con un manual y esto es lo que David pronto se dio cuenta cuando los acontecimientos de la vida empezaron a pasarle por encima y se vio impotente ante el acontecimiento de la misma.
David es hijo único y lo utilizó como una oportunidad para vivir su vida sin precauciones. Siempre sintió que todo le llegaría sin que se estresara por ello. ¿Se le puede culpar? Es hijo único de un hombre rico, así que está acostumbrado a salirse con la suya. Tenía lo mejor de todo, tanto que nunca aceptaba un no por respuesta de nadie.
La vida puede asestar un duro golpe a cualquiera y aquellos que crees que siempre estarán a tu lado no siempre lo estarán, porque la gente cambia su lealtad cuando ha dejado de recibir favores de una parte determinada. La lealtad de la gente se puede comprar y la dan a los que ofrecen más. Siempre se trata de lo que pueden obtener y nunca de lo que pueden dar.
Los acontecimientos cambiaron pronto para David cuando su padre y su madre se vieron envueltos en un accidente de avión. Él tenía 18 años cuando ocurrió y, aunque se sintió desolado por ello, se consoló con el hecho de que tenían lo mejor de todo y sus padres ya lo habían puesto en marcha, bonito también. Fue después del entierro cuando los familiares empezaron a asomar sus feas cabezas y la mayoría reclaman todo lo que sus manos pueden conseguir. No habían terminado de venir a hacer su selección cuando los abogados y los banqueros vinieron a informar a todos que tendrían que deshacerse de la casa, los coches y las dos casas adicionales porque el padre está endeudado con el banco. Aunque todavía no debía pagar, pero como ha fallecido, no pueden arriesgar su dinero.
Lo que ocurrió fue que el padre fue engañado después de que le dijeran que fuera a invertir en un pozo de petróleo. Venía de un amigo cercano de la familia, así que no sospechó nada e invirtió todo lo que tenía con la posibilidad de obtener el triple de su inversión. "La inversión es siempre un riesgo. Nunca se sabe cuál puede salir bien". Eso fue lo que le dijo a su abogado cuando le interrogó al respecto.
"¿Sabes cómo sonaría eso si lo haces?". Esa fue su otra respuesta a su abogado cuando le dijo que le gustaría ir a inspeccionar el lugar primero antes de invertir. No quería que el abogado fuera porque sería una señal de falta de confianza de él hacia su amigo de la familia. Fue después de su muerte que el abogado se encargó de visitar el lugar del pozo de petróleo, sólo para llegar allí y no había nada. Fue a ver al amigo de la familia sólo para darse cuenta de que habían vendido su casa y abandonado el país sin dejar rastro a la vista. El abogado fue además al banco con la esperanza de ganar más tiempo, ya que su cliente ya no está vivo, pero el banco no quiso.
Vendieron las casas y los coches y sólo fue necesaria la intervención del abogado que acogió a David porque nadie quería tener nada con él. Antes estaban muy unidos a él cuando su padre estaba vivo. Le pidieron que hablara favorablemente a su padre para conseguir el favor que buscaban, lo que hizo en innumerables ocasiones, y ahora, cuando está necesitado, la familia y los amigos huyen todos, excepto el abogado.
Fue una dura realidad de la vida para David y le toca adaptarse a una vida a la que nunca ha estado acostumbrado. La realidad le golpea con fuerza y se queda solo para formar una familia con otra familia. No lo vio venir y sintió que la vida sería siempre lo que ha estado expuesto. Justo cuando pensamos que entendemos la vida, suceden muchas cosas que cambian nuestra comprensión de la vida. Aquellos que crees que estarían ahí para ti no siempre lo estarán y aquellos que pasaste por alto podrían ser la única persona más cercana a tener una familia que tendrías.
La vida consiste en planificar y cuando no planificamos, somos precavidos y pensamos en el futuro, la vida tiene una forma de sorprendernos.
