Remember me.

After the accident that almost damaged Austin's brain, the doctor said he was left with a slim chance of remembering anything or anyone that was close to him and that's if he even makes it out of his unconscious state.

Austin had been unconscious for days and was still breathing but through the aid of the oxygen he was placed on. His mother cried day and night when she looked at him and saw that he wasn't improving in any way. She thought of what he was going through wherever he was because she knew he had left the physical world.

Austin's girlfriend Kayla who he was on his way to meet before having the accident was put in an emotional trauma. She lost all appetite and was beginning to lose weight in such a short period of time.

His friends who knew his intentions had told her that he was on his way to finally take their relationship to the next level by proposing to her and of course at the spot of the accident, they found the ring which had been smashed by the truck they ran into.

It was a time where they had to exercise their faith to help him get back to consciousness. Kayla gave the smashed gold to a black Smith to help her straighten it and when it was fixed, she put it on her finger hoping each passing day for him to wake up so she could officially say Yes.

One night, Kayla couldn't go home so she decided to spend the night with him at the hospital. It was past 12am when she felt him move his hands. She got really excited and called his name out loud hoping that he would hear her and wake up. After hours of trying,he finally opened his eyes.

Kayla's joy knew no bounds as she ran out immediately to get the doctor. When the doctor arrived, he examined Austin and he was totally fine but no one knew about his brain performance until he asked them what happened to him leaving everyone present in total confusion and shock.

He looked curious and asked different questions as he couldn't recognize anyone but his mother. She was the only one he still had in his head.

Kayla felt totally disappointed and tried making him remember her. She tried all she could by telling him of the different experiences they've had together and how he wanted to propose but he still didn't remember any of those things which made Kayla weep bitterly.

One sunny afternoon, Kayla thought of commiting suicide. She hung a rope in her bedroom and set out to see Austin at the hospital for the last time before dying. She wanted to return his ring because it hurt her so much that he couldn't remember her.

When she was granted access to him, he looked at her so emotionless which made her breakdown in tears. "Why can't you remember me Austin? Was I ever bad to you while we were dating? I was your best friend Austin, I was everything you needed in a woman, see here, the ring, the ring you wanted to give to me before getting involved in an accident" she stretched her finger on which she wore the ring to his face for him to have a proper look before making another statement. "Remember me Austin! Please remember me, I'm dying on the inside" she said as she fell on her knees sobbing.

"The ring, the ring, the ring" was what came out of Austin's mouth and Kayla raised her head up in anticipation that he had remembered something. She wiped her tears off immediately and held his hands "do you remember anything"? He shook his head and Kayla's hands dropped. She felt heavy in her heart and all she wanted was to just get rid of herself. Then she got up from the floor where she was kneeling, took off the ring and found her way to the door.

"Kayla Brown"! He called her full name and she immediately turned around to see him sitting up in bed looking at her with eyes that melted her soul. She walked slowly to him and he held her hands. "I remember you" he said as he planted a kiss on her hand and put the ring back on her finger asking her to marry him.

At this time, his friends and mom had arrived and they stood watching from the door. Kayla said Yes and everyone was happy once again that Austin's brain was back to its normal functioning state.
