Splinterlands End of Season Reflections + Strategies I used in Silver

in Splinterlands3 years ago (edited)

Hi guys, Ranked season ended not long ago, so here is my post on my reflections for the season and the strategies that worked for me in Silver.

I ended my season in Silver III but with a rating of 2039. I could've rented more cards to boost my power but i didn't think it would be worth it, since I'm still not familiar with battling in Gold league yet. Imagine lv 8 commons against my (mostly) lv 1 cards lmao

I collected my season rewards with no expectations at all, and was pleasantly surprised by a shiny GF Venari Bonesmith 🎉

In total, the cards I got from Season rewards were worth around $26.55 at current prices, but I think I'm gonna hoard them for now.

I think I've done decently this season, almost surpassing my highest rating of 2083 at one point. Now that I'm familiar with Silver league, it might be time to try to rank up to Gold League and stay there.
I'm still debating whether its worth my effort though, since rental prices skyrocket near Season End. If I can reach 1900 rating in the first few days when rental prices are still low, I'll give Gold league a try. That way I can also benefit from the increased DEC rewards for battles.

Strategies for the Season
I found that Water Mage decks are still good, especially with Djinn Oshannus. Alternatively, Bortus with Torhilo/ Djinn Oshannus (cards with Void ability) paired with ranged cards like Axemaster win matches too, especially if you can predict the opponent playing Alric Stormbringer and Mages.

Another deck I've found success with is Light Splinter with Sneak and Inspire.
I rented the following cards:

  • Crystal Jaguar/Silvershield Paladin: The tank, Crystal Jaguar gets Thorns at lv 4 while Silvershield Paladin gets 2 attack at lv4 for a total of 3 attack with Inspire buff
  • Silvershield Assassin lv3+: has 2 attack at lv 3, or 3 attack with Inspire
  • Feral Spirit lv4+, Elven Cutthroat lv4+: Cheap sneak cards that have 2 attack, or 3 attack each with Inspire

I paired the Sneak monsters with Silvershield Knight for maximum sneak damage. The pure damage that this deck brings just shuts down many opponents.
With lv3 Silvershield Assassin and lv4 Feral Spirit and Elven Cutthroat, they deal a total of 12 DAMAGE after inspire! This deck is really vulnerable to Mylor and Thorns in general, so its best to use Lorna Shine to negate that damage and hopefully you destroy their lineup with your 12 damage.

Alternatively I use this Death splinter deck when I think the opponents are going to use Mylor. Harklaw's shield can reduce damage from Thorns to 1, while using Ranged cards with snipe such as Twisted Jester to defeat their damage dealers. I find myself coming back to this staple deck when there isn't any specific ruleset that I have to deal with. 4 mana for 2 attack and 4 health (Twister Jester) is alot of value, manawise.

After struggling with Earthquake rulesets for a while, I also decided to finally rent Brighton Bloom :D makes life soo much easier, I dont know why I didnt do this earlier

Brighton Bloon gives ALL your monster the Flying ability, allowing them to be immune to earthquake damage. She's also pretty cheap to rent, costing less than 1 DEC for a lv 1.

This concludes my reflection and strategy sharing, how was your season? Did you learn anything new about the game? For me, I learnt that Divine Shield doesn't block poison at all xD cost me a few games
