Trying Out Lava Launcher With Yodin Zaku For The First Time

In yesterday's Week 6 update post, I mentioned that I had just gotten a Lava Launcher and was looking forward to trying it out today. Well now I have, and I thought I'd share the battles with you! All three of these battles used Yodin Zaku as the summoner. It's just a natural fit if you have the mana available.

Battle 1

For this first battle using the Lava Launcher I had unlimited mana, Equalizer, and Spreading Fury, so I decided to just throw in all my expensive ranged attackers and see what happened. Since I hadn't really used it before, I also included another new reward card, Gargoya Devil, up front. I kept Lava Launcher a little further back because I wanted it to stay alive for its first outing. It turned out to be worth the precaution, as the two monsters in front of Lava Launcher both died before the battle was over. Lava Launcher itself did plenty of damage, but the battle was mostly uneventful since aside from one sniper, the enemies had no good way of penetrating our defenses and we quickly tore through their team. Test number one was definitely a success.

Battle 2

Our second battle was a little trickier. This time Lava Launcher was up front (well, behind a single chicken), and the enemy team was mostly magic-based, so his armor wasn't going to be very useful. He was able to survive long enough to tank 4 hits and get off one attack, wounding Lord Arianthus and killing off the Skeleton Assassin with his shrapnel. Not a bad performance considering how much magic was being thrown at him. We also lost our War Chaang before the battle was done, but the rest of our team was just able to dispatch the enemies. It was close enough that had the enemy summoner been Contessa L'Ament or Mimosa Nightshade with the ability to reduce our ranged damage, it might very well have been a loss. Overall, I'd say test two was also a success, but with definite room for improvement.

Battle 3

Our final battle was a slightly better test of Lava Launcher's tanking ability, since this time the enemy team had no magic damage. However, due to the Target Practice ruleset, the enemies all had snipe and would be shooting past the launcher anyway. Oh well. In the end it did not matter at all, since the enemy team only survived long enough to score 3 hits on anyone. We did get to see Torhilo take a swipe at the Lava Launcher, and it was gratifying to watch all 5 damage get absorbed by his armor with more room to spare. There's no denying that this battle was an utter blowout, and definitely a resounding success for our final test.

Final Thoughts

I look forward to trying out Lava Launcher some more in the coming days, and maybe without the support of Yodin if I can manage it. I think Lava Launcher has the potential to stand on it's own under Pyre, but it's hard to resist running Yodin when he's available. Either way, Lava Launcher was my favorite of the new reward cards right from the start, and I'm happy to see that it performs as well as I had hoped!
