Always represented as a raging being, the Minotaur is one of the most recognizable iconic creatures in Greek mythology. Pop culture has already used and abused the Minotaur's story and image, whether in games, cartoons, movies, or series; the Minotaur is undoubtedly one of the most interesting legends and is remembered even after centuries of the origin of its history.
In Splinterlands, we have some minotaurs who live up to the legend through their artistic representations. In this post, I intend to approach the characters and their abilities while talking a little about how the history of this very interesting creature came about.
The first mention of the Minotaur can be found in Homer's Iliad, which was written in the 8th century BC. However, many other poets and authors talk about this legend that until today remains alive due to its various interpretations. The best-known version is that King Minos, who wanted to be king of Crete, asked Poseidon for help to achieve this goal. Poseidon, at Minos' request, sends a beautiful white bull across the sea and asks Minos to sacrifice it in his honor. However, Minos felt sorry for the bull and decided to sacrifice one of his own herd in return, believing that doing so would deceive Poseidon.
But, of course, Poseidon found out, and as punishment he made Minos' wife fall in love with the bull. For this reason, she mated with him, and from this union, the Minotaur was born. Legend has it that Pasiphae, the wife of Minos, loved her son, but as the minotaur grew he became very ferocious and bloodthirsty, and his appetite was only satisfied with human flesh. For this reason, Minos ordered them to build a labyrinth so that the minotaur could live trapped in it.
It is because of its origin story that the Minotaur is always represented as a furious and cruel creature. For in addition to being born from a bestial relationship, he spent the rest of his life in prison until he was defeated by Theseus.
In Splinterlands, we have 4 minotaurs, 2 of them of the Earth element, one of the fire element, and one of the Death element. All of them are represented in a bipedal way, although it is not possible to say that it is a man's body, because their lower limbs are like those of a bull, especially the feet that have hooves like the animal, while the characters' hands have five fingers like that of a human. In addition to these characteristics, these Splinterlands monsters have tails like the classic Minotaur, and their bodies appear to be filled with fur. In theory, all these characters have the same characteristics that make us call them minotaurs, however, each character has its particularities which I will comment on below.
Starting with the Legendary card Minotaur Warlord, a character of the Earth element, and as his name says, is a powerful Lord who has the ability to reflect back magic attacks (Magic Reflect). His color is pink, and his clothes are in green and gold tones, which denote a certain royalty. The tip of his staff is adorned with what appears to be the skull of a minotaur, and from it comes a blast of red power that appears to be very dangerous.
It is a medium-speed Melee card that has 4 of attack and 10 health. Undoubtedly, an excellent choice to play at the front of a battle.
Next, let's talk about the Minotaur Charlock, like all minotaurs in Splinterlands, it's a Melee attack card. Its element is fire, and it is the only one of the Splinterlands minotaurs that we can consider slow (1 speed). It has 3 attack and 10 health. His only garment is a loincloth, and on his arms we can see a chain that we can consider an allusion to an escape from a labyrinth.
The third character that we will address is the Minotaur Warrior, although he can be considered the least powerful in battle, in my opinion, he is the most beautiful. His robes are in blue, orange, and gold colors. This warrior has ornaments on his muzzle and ears; golden rings that match his robes which, as in the case of the Minotaur Warlord, denote a certain royalty. While not a very powerful card in battle, it is without a doubt one of the most beautiful characters in Splinterlands.
Finally, we have the scariest monster of this species: the Undead Minotaur. As its name suggests, it's a zombie. Its color is black and we can see strange purple coming out of its abdomen. To me, it looks like he's being controlled by the peculiar red tinge in his eyes. On one of the wrists, we can see traces of a current, once again an allusion to escape from a labyrinth (a detail that makes me congratulate the Splinterlands art team). This bull's ability is to attack twice a round, one of my favorite skills I must confess.
Wow. It got long, I know. But, believe me, I tried to summarize as much as possible, but without disrespecting the legend or the characters in the game. There were still some things to be said, which if any, we can proceed with in the comments of that post. My goal in approaching this theme is to make people connect more with the characters in the game through knowledge of the legends that gave rise to them.

Sempre representado como um ser furioso, o Minotauro é uma das criaturas emblemáticas mais conhecidas da mitologia grega. A cultura pop já usou e abusou deveras da história e imagem do Minotauro, seja em jogos, desenhos animados, filmes ou séries; o Minotauro é sem dúvida uma das lendas mais interessantes e lembradas mesmo após séculos da origem de sua história.
Em Splinterlands, temos alguns minotauros que fazem jus a lenda através de suas representações artísticas. Nesse post, pretendo abordar os personagens e suas habilidades ao mesmo tempo que falo um pouco sobre como surgiu a história dessa criatura tão interessante.
A primeira menção ao Minotauro pode ser encontrada Ilíada de Homero, que foi escrita no século VIII a.C. Porém, muitos outros poetas e autores dissertam sobre esta lenda que até hoje permanece viva devido as suas várias interpretações. A versão mais conhecida, é a de que o Rei Minos, que desejava ser rei de Creta, pediu ajuda a Poseidon para que conseguisse tal objetivo. Poseidon, atendendo o pedido de Minos, envia um lindo touro branco pelo mar e pede para que Minos o sacrifique em sua homenagem. Porém, Minos sentiu pena do touro e decidiu sacrificar um qualquer de seu próprio rebanho no lugar dele, acreditando que dessa forma enganaria Poseidon.
Mas, é claro que Poseidon descobriu, e como castigo fez com que a esposa de Minos se apaixonasse pelo touro. Por esse motivo, ela acasalou com ele, e dessa união surgiu o Minotauro. Diz a lenda que Pasífae, a esposa de Minos, amava seu filho, mas na medida que o minotauro foi crescendo ele foi ficando muito feroz e sanguinário, e e seu apetite só era saciado com carne humana. Por esse motivo, Minos ordenou que construíssem um labirinto para que o minotauro vivesse preso nele.
É por causa de sua história de origem que o Minotauro é sempre representado como uma criatura furiosa e cruel. Pois além de ter nascido de uma relação bestial, passou o resto de sua vida preso até que fosse derrotado por Teseu.
Em Splinterlands, temos 4 minotauros, sendo eles 2 do elemento Terra, um do elemento fogo e um do elemento Morte. Todos eles são representados de forma bípede, embora não dê pra afirmar que se trata de um corpo de homem, pois seus membros inferiores são como os de um touro, principalmente os pés que possuem cascos como o animal, enquanto que as mão dos personagens possuem cinco dedos como a de um humano. Além dessas características, esses monstros de Splinterlands possuem caldas como as Minotauro clássico, e seus corpos parecem preenchidos de pêlos. Em teoria todos esses personagens possuem as mesmas características que fazem com que possamos denominá-los como minotauros, porém, cada personagem tem suas particularidades das quais comentarei no seguir.
Começando pela carta Lendária Minotaur Warlord, um personagem do elemento Terra, e como seu nome já diz, é um poderoso Lord que tem a habilidade de refletir de volta ataques mágicos (Magic Reflect). Sua cor é rosa, e suas vestes são em tons verdes e douradas, o que denotam uma certa realeza. A ponta de seu cajado é enfeitada com o que parece ser o crânio de um minotauro, e dela sai uma rajada de poder vermelho que parece ser muito poderosa.
É carta Melee de velocidade média que possui 4 de ataque e 10 de vida. Sem dúvida, uma excelente escolha para jogar no front de uma batalha.
Em seguida, falemos sobre o Minotaur Charlock, como todos os minotauros de Splinterlands, é uma carta de Melee ataque. Seu elemento é fogo, e é o único dos minotauros de Splinterlands que podemos considerar lento (1 de velocidade). Possui 3 de ataque e 10 de vida. Sua única veste é uma tanga, e em seus braços podemos ver uma corrente que podemos considerar uma alusão a fuga de um labirinto.
O terceiro personagem que iremos abordar é o Minotaur Warrior, embora possa ser considerado o menos poderoso em batalha, em minha opinião é o mais bonito. Suas vestes são nas cores azul, laranja e dourado. Este guerreiro possui ornamentos em seu focinho e orelhas; argolas douradas que combinam com suas vestes que assim como no caso do Minotaur Warlord, denotam uma certa realeza. Embora não seja uma carta muito poderosa em batalha, sem dúvida é um dos personagens mais bonitos de Splinterlands.
Por ultimo, temos o mostro mais assustador dessa especie: Undead Minotaur. Como seu próprio nome já diz, é um zumbi. Sua cor é preta e podemos ver estranhas roxas saindo de se abdômen. Para mim, parece que está sendo controlado devido o tom vermelho peculiar em seus olhos. Em um dos pulsos podemos ver vestígios de uma corrente, mais uma vez uma alusão a fuga de um labirinto. E um detalhe que faz com que eu parabenize a equipe de arte de Splinterlands. A habilidade deste touro é atacar duas vezes por round, uma das habilidades que mais gosto devo confessar.
Uau. Isso ficou extenso, eu sei. Mas, acreditem, tentei resumir o máximo, porém sem desrespeitar a lenda nem os personagens do jogo. Ainda havia algumas coisas a serem ditas, que se for o caso, podemos prosseguir nos comentários desse post. Muito obrigada a todos que tem acompanhado essa série em que relaciono personagens de Splinterlands com mitologias. Meu objetivo em abordar esse tema é fazer com que as pessoas se conectem mais com os personagens do jogo através do conhecimento das lendas que os originaram.
!1UP Sempre achei Minotauros muito legais, principalmente por ter recordações antigas sobre algum filme que abordava um labirinto gigantesco que morava um Minotauro, porém infelizmente não consigo recordar qual filme era. Parabéns pelo ótimo conteúdo e sua correlação com Splinterlands!
