CRACKING THE FEROCITY RULESET: SECURING VICTORY WITHOUT TAUNT!

Ruleset Focus

For this week's Battle Mage Secrets, the focus was on featuring the FEROCITY ruleset.

When discussing the FEROCITY ruleset, it's important to mention the TAUNT ability that accompanies it. These two aspects are closely related, as the FEROCITY ruleset grants all monster units the FURY ability, allowing them to deal double damage to a target monster with the TAUNT ability 😫

This ruleset doesn't significantly alter the game dynamics, but it does discourage the use of monster units with the TAUNT ability. Personally, I find navigating battles under these rules straightforward, especially since I don't possess or rent powerful TAUNT ability monsters like the Coeurl Lurker (Neutral Splinter) and Agor Longtail (Dragon Splinter). As a result, the FEROCITY ruleset actually benefits me when it is in effect 🤣

As of today, these are the 12 monsters that has the TAUNT ability!

Avoid selecting these monsters especially in the FEROCITY ruleset! 😡

The Battle

While fulfilling my responsibilities in the Splinterlands scholarship account I have with Balthazar, bltzr-wizard-729, I was able to engage in a battle that involves the FEROCITY ruleset. To get right into the action, the battle link can be found here. Otherwise, do read on as I go into more detail regarding the lineup and fight.

First, let's examine the ruleset implemented in this battle. The Odd Ones Out ruleset specifies that only monster units (excluding summoners) with odd mana costs are permitted. Additionally, the main highlight of this challenge is the FEROCITY ruleset, which we have thoroughly discussed earlier. Lastly, the Keep Your Distance ruleset restricts the use of monsters with Melee attacks. The battle has a mana limit of 22, and players can only choose monsters from the Fire, Death, and Dragon Splinters..

Summoner, Quix The Devious

The Keep Your Distance ruleset suggests that the battle lineup from both teams will be filled with either Magic and Ranged monsters. Considering this, I had to decide between Thaddius Brood and Quix The Devious as summoners, as they both possess attack debuffs that would be advantageous in the battle. Ultimately, I opted for Quix The Devious because I had a specific tanker in mind from the Dragon Splinter that I wanted to include in my lineup. ✌️

First Position, Void Dragon

Among the three available Splinters (Fire, Death, and Dragon) and considering the Keep Your Distance ruleset, there are limited options for a reliable non-melee tanker. With the mana limit set at 22, there is little room for flexibility in choosing the lineup. The presence of the Void Dragon played a crucial role in my decision to select Quix The Devious as my summoner for the battle. With a mana cost of 5 and a remarkable set of abilities, the Void Dragon clearly stood out as the most suitable and obvious choice 👊

Second Position, Venari Marksrat

Ever since the Marty ability was introduced, Venari Marksrat has become one of my favorite cards to use in battles. I strategically positioned it in the second position, right behind the Void Dragon, anticipating that my opponent might deploy a monster with either the Snipe or Opportunity ability. This positioning would attract the attention of such monsters, causing them to target Venari Marksrat and potentially eliminate it early in the battle. This sacrifice would provide a valuable advantage to the adjacent units in the 1st and 3rd positions, giving them a much-needed boost 💪

Third Position, Life Sapper

Life Sapper is a cost-effective monster with respectable attributes. With a mana cost of only 3, it offers a decent Magic attack of 2, along with a relatively high Speed and Health of 4 each. The Health of Life Sapper will continue to increase during the battle due to its Life Leech ability. Furthermore, if it gets defeated, the Redemption ability comes into play, dealing 1 damage to all opposing monsters. This capability could potentially make a significant impact in battles with limited mana resources 😁

Last Position, Lira The Dark

Lira The Dark plays a crucial role as the primary damage dealer in my lineup. With the Swiftness ability enhancing its Speed, Lira The Dark usually initiates the first attack in battles. Its combination of Swiftness and the Opportunity ability enables Lira to frequently eliminate low-health monsters with its initial strike. This advantage becomes particularly evident in battles with limited mana resources where monsters tend to be a little more feeble 🤣

The Analysis

My opponent adhered to the FEROCITY ruleset by not including any monsters with the TAUNT ability, which was not unexpected considering the available Splinters and mana limitations 😅

As anticipated, the opponent also opted for the Void Dragon as their frontline tank, highlighting its popularity among Splinterlands players. As mentioned earlier, I predicted that they would deploy a monster with either the Snipe or Opportunity ability, and indeed, Lira The Dark made it into their lineup, falling into the trap I had set 😁

With the elimination of Venari Marksrat, my Void Dragon and Life Sapper received a significant boost through the Martyr ability which ultimately lead to my victory in the battle ✌️
