Adding Some Elves To My Splinterlands Collection

Elves have always been one of my favorite groups of mythical creatures. They are intelligent, they have quick reflexes, and they wield powerful magical abilities. The Elf bloodline in Splinterlands accurately represents all of these characteristics. Not only is it interesting from a flavor perspective, but elves are a force to be reckoned with on the battlefield. So, in today's post, I want to share my experience collecting a few additional elf themed Splinterlands cards and testing them out in battle.

My Starting Point

For the past couple months, Frontier format has been my primary focus in Splinterlands. I think it's a great format, but I wanted to branch out a little bit more into the modern format as well. As I was looking at my collection, I realized that I didn't have a very strong earth team, and I definitely didn't have a lot of elves.

PeakMonsters to The Rescue

As you can see from this screenshot, I did not have a very strong collection of modern format elves. However, I was determined to try and remedy the situation. So, I logged into PeakMonsters and started filling up the shopping cart.

The Revised Collection

One of the great things about Splinterlands is that there are lots of different cards to collect. On one hand, this adds fun and excitement to the game because there are so many different combinations and strategies to try out. However, there are so many different cards in circulation that it can sometimes be difficult to collect all of them with a limited amount of funds. So, I had to make a few tough decisions about what cards to prioritize.

At the end of the day, I decided to focus on collecting as many different elves as I could as opposed to investing in only 1 or 2 really high priced cards. The one exception to that rule is Lord Thanalor. Compared to the other elves, he had a pretty high price tag. However, 3 magic damage is a really powerful attack and I thought this card would be invaluable in the 99 mana rule sets. So, I decided to pick him up as well.

Battle Testing!!

Obviously, I was pretty excited to collect all of these cards, but I was just excited to test them out on the battlefield. So, I decided to jump into Modern, play a few matches, and see how all of my new cards performed.

As you can see from this match, I was playing against an opponent who had a level 5 Archon, whereas I was playing with only a level 1 Archon. Additionally, my opponent had leveled up many of their units to level 2 or 3, whereas my units were only level 1.

However, elven magic is very powerful, and by the end of the first round, I was able to eliminate all but 2 of my opponent's units.

Victory!!

At the end of the day, the synergy created with my elf team was too powerful, and we were able to claim the victory over my opponent and earn some glint as well as SPS.

Join Me In Splinterlands

Speaking of earning rewards, I think that one of the fantastic things about Splinterlands is that it is more than just a fun trading card game. It also allows players to win additional NFTs and cryptocurrency for winning matches against their opponents. If you like fast-paced trading card games that require strategy and you are also intrigued by the possibility of earning rewards for winning matches, then I'd invite you to join me in Splinterlands using my referral link.

What's Next??

Obviously, I am super excited to have all of these new elves in my collection, but the elf collection is not yet complete. There are still a few more cards to pick up, so my goal is to hopefully finish out the collection in the near future by adding Decrepit Windseer and (if I can save up enough) Taye Loreswift!

Personally, I don't see much value in Taye Loreswift.
As cute as it is in terms of an idea for a card she just doesn't hit the spot in terms of power. I think your money would be better spent elsewhere!

Lord Thalanor, on the other hand, is a great choice and I don't bring him out just for high mana battles either 😉 Coupled with the elf summoner he can do incredible damage even on his own. And you definetely got him at a great price, courtesy of the recent crash ahah

Anyway, your posts seem well done and the community could definetely use some content from level-headed budget players. Let me ask you, though.. why stick to Frontier mode? How often do you play Ranked?

Hey thanks so much for the comment!!

I'm starting to think you are right about Taye Loreswift. It really is a cool concept, and I'd like to have a complete collection of elves, but at the same time, I think it would probably be more helpful (from a game play perspective) to just level up my archon.

As far as why I stick to Frontier mode, it is a variety of factors, but I think the biggest is that there is only so much time in the day. 🤣At least for now, it seems that I get a better ROI on growing my collection playing Frontier. That being said, I am absolutely pumped about all the new uses for glint (especially Conclave Rewards), so I'll probably pivot and start doing a bit more of Modern in the near future.

I think epics and legendaries will be the best way to improve your collection effectively. Most of them have very strong and unique effects.

Leveling up your archons along with some key units will also improve your winning chances by quite a bit. However remember that you can also rent higher level cards for a season whereas with epics and legendaries usually one copy at lvl 1 will already be a big improvement on its own.

Ranked is definetely the way to go, competition will be tougher but you want as many of the reward cards as possible. If you go that route you need to put some of your budget towards SPS to stake on your account, it'll give you an important multiplier on how much glint you earn!

Sadly, almost all of the foundation cards are severely underpowered so they won't serve you too well in the long run.

At the same time it's definetely a slippery slope to start investing in the game 🤣
For one thing, like you said, there's only so much time in the day and it's a long process to submit all your battles. Some days it feels wasteful to let your cards just sit there ahah
I think we've all been there..

Moreover, once you start investing in the cards you'll see that there's virtually no limit on how much you can spend in order to perfect your collection. Both in terms of variety and of levels. So definetely try to come in with a budget and some goals.

Thanks for the advice! One of the things that I like so much about Splinterlands is that there is kind of a "game within the game" of the resource management. It's so tough to know what to prioritize. Do I get SPS for the multiplier boost, or do I focus on cards?? It's fun and exciting trying to make the maximum use of a modest budget.

I do the writing competitions here twice a week and I was able to use some of those earnings to get enough SPS to get the full glint/SPS modifier up to Silver III. I love the excitement of cracking packs, but I think my current plan is to try and make the most of my modest budget by getting key single cards. I'd like to aim for a strong silver deck, and I definitely think that's possible if I double down and focus on the game. I'm already earning pack rewards from playing in Gold in Foundations, so I might start selling those so I have more to purchase modern cards.

I think you have a good point about the Epics and Legendaries. I have a single BCX copy of Thandalorian Scion, and I can't even count how many games that card alone has helped me win.

Thanks again for all the info!!

It's definetely a game with many moving parts and it's constantly being updated.

The Hive posts can help, for sure! The sad truth is that blogging can pay much more than what Splinterlands can offer unless you literally put thousands of dollars into the game. If you can manage to have a small trickle of cash from your blogging rewards that'll help you just as much as playing daily. And it's not like the money is exiting the Hive block-chain altogether either so there's a nice synergy between Splinterlands and Hive there.

The draw of playing Ranked is not so much the money rewards, that are very limited, but the glint. Almost all reward cards are highly desirable and will make you much more competitive so there's some relatively plaesant and linear progression that you can look forward to if you play Ranked.

Anyway, if you're at the point where you can get Conclave Arcana packs from Frontier mode definetely keep playing that 👍

Also, this is not widely known but there's free tournaments that you can participate in where you can experiment against other players with ALL the cards in the game, you don't need to actually own them. You don't get any rewards but it's a nice way for a newcomer to scratch that itch of playing with fancy cards. They're called "scholar showcases", check them out 😉

Maybe stick to a Bronze budget for now and see what kind of gradual improvements you can do to round out your collection. But the shopping you did with the elf cards will already give you a boost, in the long term.

Thanks so much for the suggestion on the entry level tournaments. I was looking at them and they seem really appealing, especially since there is no entry fee.

I just found your Splinterlands YouTube channel, so I subscribed there to give a bit of support.

Cheers!

Ah, thanks!

It's honestly just a little experiment I did a few years ago by publishing some videos on YouTube and 3speak but it requires a lot of technical knowledge and a good machine to produce good videos. Not really the thing for me at the moment as I have other priorities.

Lately I've just been publishing the videos to put some content out there to participate in the Social Media Challenge and increase my stake on Hive.

I have no particular ambitions about the channel, though, so don't feel obliged to interact with it 🤣

I do appreciate you taking the time to read my posts carefully, however! Most of the time it feels like shouting into the void here on Hive so it's always nice for my posts to be recognized by others beyond a superficial level.
