Today, I will share a battle in the Diamond III league with you guys. This one is one of the most troublesome ones because of the rules. But, thanks to my monster choice in the deck, I got past it and secured the victory.

Without further ado, let's begin.

Battle Conditions

The mana cap is 36 and there are 3 summoners to choose from: Water, Nature, and Death. With such a high mana cap, one could make an extremely well-balanced deck with a Water summoner but I chose Death since I like the summoner traits there.

Battle Rules:-

  • Unprotected: Monsters do not have any armour and do not get any armour from Summoner buffs or monster traits.
  • Divine Protection: All monsters have the Divine Shield Ability.
  • Earthquake: Non-Flying monsters get -2 damage at the end of each round.

Battle Details

Let's start from my side:

Summoner: Thaddius Brood(Ability: Decrease in HP and magic damage for all enemy monsters by 1)(Level 5).

Tank: Cursed Windeku(Ability: Thorns, Self-heal).

Ranged Attackers: Venari Marksrat(Ability: Martyr), Zyriel(Ability: Weapon Training, Life Leech, Divine Shield).

Blocked Melee Attacker: Arachne Thug(Ability: Reach, Trample).

Non-Attackers: Riftwing(Ability: Flying, Scavenge, Backfire), Will-O-Wish(Ability: Flying, Weaken).

My strategy was to have as many monsters with high Hp as possible since most of my monsters do not have flying and yet I managed 2 monsters that did not have any attacks and had flying ability. That way, I paired it up with Zyriel and instantly gained 2 permanent damage dealers. I counted on Marksrat to die, that way both Windeku and Arachne would get the martyr effect, and thus their overall stats would increase.

My overall damage per round was 17. Adding in the damage from thorns and self-heal and scavenge, 19 damage per round with a healing of 3 and a potential HP gain depending on the number of monsters' deaths. Therefore, the overall HP gain was greater than 3 in each round.

Now for the opposition:

Summoner: Keyla Frendul(Ability: Increase in Speed and Shield by 1 for all ally monsters)

Tank: Baakjira(Ability: Void, Slow).

Ranged Attackers: Angelic Mandarin(No Ability), Venai Marksrat(Ability: Martyr).

Melee Attackers: Deeplurker(Ability: Oppportunity), Pelacor Bandit(Ability: Sneak, Flying), Kulu Mastermind(Ability: Weapon Training, Opportunity).

His strategy was very good. He used 2 monsters with the opportunity ability to gnaw at my weakest link and start to reduce my numbers from there. He also played his heavy weight at the forefront that has the slow ability, that way, all my monsters would have a reduced speed. This would further increase his chances of eliminating my monsters. His placement of Marksrat was good, between Deeplurker and Bandit. That way, his overall damage would increase, making one of his monsters with opportunity have higher damage. This further increases his chances of winning.

His overall damage per round is 11. Including the stats boost that he would get from Marksrat, it would get to 12 per round. No healing factor whatsoever.

Major Events

Round 1

Screenshot (812).png

The first monster to fall was my Marksrat, thankfully too. My overall damage increased by 1.

Screenshot (813).png

Near the end of the first round, his tank fell as it had no healing factor.

Round 2

Screenshot (815).png

Sadly for me, his Kulu mastermind deleted my Zyriel, blowing a hole in the rear end of my deck.

Next, his Angel fell thanks to my tank. Thus, the odds were evened.

And just like dominoes, his monsters started to fall one after another. This time, after half the round had passed, Deeplurker kicked the bucket.

Will-O-Wisp takes out Marksrat this late in the game and thus only 1 monster received the martyr effect.

Round 3

Screenshot (820).png

His Kulu charged right after and took ou Arachne Thug, that way, it was a 2 v 3.

Screenshot (821).png

At the end of the 3rd round, his Pelacor with the buffed state was one shotted and thus it was a 1 v 3 as my Riftwing scavenged yet another HP.

Round 4

At the end of the 4th round, the battle was decided.

Results

The battle was decided before I clicked Rumble. The clear difference in damage and the presence of a healing factor was more than enough to declare who the winner would be. However, the battle could've tilted in his favour if only his tank was a different one, that way his overall damage would've increased, and maybe a healer in the back might've helped instead of the Marksrat.
