Splinterlands — Legendaries prohibited!

Welcome everyone 👋, I'm back again with a new post for the Splinterlands Battle Mage Secrets Weekly Challenge!

What is Splinterlands?

Splinterlands is an online collectible card game using blockchain technology. Every card in the game is owned as a non-fungible token (NFT) and is traded using similar features to cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin and Ethereum. If you’ve ever played collectible trading card games like Magic: The Gathering, Pokémon or Yu-Gi-Oh!, you’ll find a similar experience, but through a web browser and blockchain wallet.

This week, the ruleset we have to introduce for this challenge is the Lost Legendaries ruleset, which prohibits the use of legendary cards in battle. The summoners are still available, so it only affects units. Yep, that's it, I think the Legendaries are pretty tired of carrying the battles and went on vacation, so it's time for the Epics units to take command.

There will be no monsters available with the Bloodlust ability to use in this ruleset, as all of them (except some gladius cards) are legendary.

Sadly, there won't be many combos with the Weapons Training ability, as there are only 3 non-legendary monsters with this ability, all of them rebellion cards.

Now let's analyze a Brawl battle in the Diamond league, Wild format, only with Alpha, Beta and Untamed cards allowed:
Vettev (Team Possible) vs LealHarold (Immortal Gods 4)!

In addition to the Lost Legendaries ruleset, all monsters will gain +2 armor thanks to the Armored Up ruleset. And magic attacks will hit armor before reducing the unit's health due to the Weak Magic ruleset.

The first player, Vettev, decides to choose Lorna Shine as his summoner, allowing him to use the light element cards, and giving all his units the Divine Shield ability, meaning that the first damage they take will be ignored ( poison still causes damage ).

In the frontline position, Silvershield Paladin, will be the main tank and will take reduced damage from melee and ranged attacks by 50%. Additionally, when hit with a magic attack, it will deal half the magic damage (rounded up) back to the attacker.

In the second position, Furious Chicken, which is at max lvl and therefore damages enemies if it can attack, still costs free mana, so even if it doesn't make its attack, it can act as a bait unit. If for some reason it's not at full health, the chicken gains 50% bonus melee attack and speed.

In the third position, Silvershield Bard, which only costs 1 mana, cannot attack from this position, but in the meantime it will remove all negative effects on the friendly unit that is in the first position each round. And it will give its units +1 Speed thanks to its Swiftness ability.

In the fourth position, Divine Healer, who will restore one-third of the max health of the friendly unit in the first position each round. Additionally, it will Slow the enemy units by -1 Speed.

In the fifth position, Herbalist who, like his Silvershield ally, will clear negative effects on the unit in the first position. And heals the friendly backline unit that has taken the most damage for one-third of their max health, each round.

In the last position, Evangelist, the last ranged unit of the team, who when attacking the flying monsters, snares them, removing their flying ability (these attacks cannot miss). While Evangelist is alive, she will increase the attack of her melee allies by +1. And finally she will reduce the armor of the enemy units by -2 due to her Rust ability.

The second player, LealHarold, decides to use Daria, the dragon summoner, as he plans to use melee monsters and Daria increases the attack of all melee units by +1.

Play with only 4 monsters, all melee and human units. In the first position choose Hugo Strongsword who not only has the Shield ability but also the healing ability.

The next unit will be Silvershield Assassin, who will attack the last unit on the enemy team twice per round and will have a 50% chance to apply Poison on each attack.

Like his opponent in the third position, uses Silvershield Bard, but it's only at level 4 and doesn't have the Swiftness ability.

And in the last position, Armorsmith, who will repair a third max of an ally's armor each round.

Watch on Splinterlands

This is one of the battles that shows that having cards at their highest level is not always going to win against low level monsters.

I think Vettev was overconfident in this battle (who knows, maybe not), as he used 3 support cards that lacked damage just to help his tank monster and only one monster that had decent damage in the last position.

LealHarold also used a Shield unit in the first position, but only 2 support units, and the Assassin who was literally the only card in the battle that destroyed units. Since the assassin focused on defeating the units behind first, to finally finish off the monster on the frontline. LealHarold won the battle with low level units and with a powerful strategy.

Silvershield Assassin, for destroying the entire enemy team.

  • Legendary monsters are also the rarest cards in Hearthstone and have a unique design.

  • In Pokémon, legendaries are generally very strong, and are only surpassed in rarity by ultra beasts.
