Splinterlands Battle Mage Secrets - Reverse Speed

Hey guys!

In this new Challenge we are going to address the Reverse Speed rule.

Reverse Speed

Very easy to understand rule; “Monsters with the lowest Speed attack first and have the highest chance of evading attacks”. Now, even though is an easy rule, it could be easy to make a mistake and position an unsuitable Monster with high Speed if you have been playing for a while.

Another “interesting” fact, so to speak, is that this is one of those rules where you could win against higher level Monsters, just by using lower-level ones, or even Starter cards. This is because, with lower levels you may have lower Speed and, in this ruleset, this means more evasion.

So, this is one of those rules that creates blooper battles, where you may think that your very strong high-level cards will succeed, but the opposite happens against a Starter cards lineup.

Just look alive, mind the ruleset and be careful of not buffing your Speed or de-buffing your opponent’s and use Bloodlust with discretion. Not much else to say.

Lineup & Analysis

This battle was done in the Modern Format, while playing in the Silver II League. We had 50 Mana points to spare, so plenty of room to assemble your strongest team possible. Only the Fire and Earth Splinters were available and besides Reverse Speed, we also had the “Back to Basics” rule, which remove all card’s effect from the battlefield.

Since the “Back to Basics” rule was on effect, I didn’t pay much attention to “Reverse Speed”, because the first one, alters the rule quite a lot. So as usual, when this rule appears, I make sure to use mostly Magic cards and I make sure I position the Monsters with the highest amount of Health in the first positions.

  • As I said, Magic is important here, so I went for Obsidian as my Summoner of choice.
  • He has no attack, but an insane amount of Health… I’m talking about the Ulundin Overseer.
  • Even though he cannot attack in the second position, because of the ruleset, I picked Grund to be in the second position, since his Health level is good enough to be a second barrier, after the first one.
  • In third position, the Mycelic Slipspawn, which also has a great deal of health points, but also a strong Magic attack.
  • Then, the Magi of Chaos. I’m glad I have it at level three, because in combination with Obsidian he gets four points of Magic attack, which is insane at Silver level.
  • Next, the Goblin Psychic. He cannot heal in this ruleset, but he has a good attack.
  • At last, Djinn Biljka, which is also a strong Magic card you can squeeze in, if you have few Mana points left. I only had four, after positioning the Goblin…

If you analyze this battle there is an interesting thing to see…

  • Both my opponent and I had 47 points of Health each, taking into account every card on the field.
  • My opponent had more firepower than me. 20 of his against 16 of mine, taking into account all kinds of attacks. 17 of his against 13 of mine, if we only consider Magic.

So, even though my opponent had more power, he lost. The reason being the “Reverse Speed” rule, which made my Magic Monsters attack sooner than my opponent’s, who positioned three cards, which were strong, yes, but too fast for this ruleset. So, another victory…
