Digging Into My Splinterlands Stats — What’s Dropping in Value?

in Splinterlands2 days ago

Hey everyone,

You all know by now that I love statistics and collecting data. I’ve been tracking my Splinterlands account for quite a few years already. Not that I always make decisions based on charts or adjust my team setup because of data, but I still enjoy collecting it and seeing the trends in my own playing style or asset values.

Even though I look at numbers like DEC per hour from my land plots, I don’t really make decisions based on them. For me, it’s still a game first. I just like seeing my progress, completing a set, improving land production, or strengthening my battle decks. The fun for me is in collecting, optimizing, and watching things evolve over time.

But when I was looking through the data recently, something caught my eye. I noticed a drop in the total value of my collection. Naturally, I got curious about what was falling that hard, was it just one set, or were all of them dropping?

So, I started digging into my graphs.

Spotting the Drop

Here’s the chart that really got my attention — the purple line showing a deep decline. That made me wonder what exactly was happening. I also noticed the yellow line dropping harder than usual, so it was definitely time to investigate.

When I zoomed in on the data, I found that the Rebellion set was deviating from the rest. It’s been falling in value much faster. That immediately raised the question.
Why is Rebellion dropping so hard?

Some might say players are already preparing for Rebellion to be removed from Modern, but that’s probably still a year away or more. So maybe it’s just market adjustment, or maybe people are moving their focus toward the next set. Either way, for anyone still missing some Rebellion cards, this could be a good opportunity. Prices are cheaper now than they were a month ago.

Stable Holdings and Market Shifts

In the chart above, you’ll see a dashed line — that’s my owned BCX, which has stayed pretty stable. I haven’t bought any new Rebellion cards for a while, so that line makes sense.

However, when you look closer at the bigger picture, it’s not just Rebellion taking a dip. My Chaos Legion cards are also going down in value, even though I’m still buying some of them mainly for land use. The trend is clearly visible in my dataset.

It’s always interesting to see how different sets move in the market. Sometimes it’s tied to announcements or future rotations, but other times it’s just the natural cycle of supply and demand. The more new sets that come out, the more attention shifts and older sets tend to see their prices soften a bit.

Collecting Data With Splinterlands Statistics Tool

I’ve been capturing this data since June 2023 using the open-source tool I built (Free open source Splinterlands statistics tool v0.26.1). That tool helps me collect all kinds of Splinterlands data automatically, from card values to battle results.

If you just want to peak what its capable of, here is a demo environment that tracks some data of a few well known people withing the splinterlands space.

There’s a lot more you can do with it too. For example, I use it for seasonal overviews to track my progress and compare how I’m performing season after season.

Note: portfolio is only daily update this seasonal information is obtained since you started your spl journey.

And another fun part, I can even see who my biggest nemesis is. Basically, which players I’ve lost to the most since I started recording this data. It’s always funny (and sometimes frustrating) to see certain names pop up repeatedly in those stats.

Final Thoughts

After going through all this data, it’s clear that some sets especially Rebellion and Chaos Legion are currently dropping harder than others. That’s not necessarily a bad thing though. Markets go up and down, and for collectors or players still building their decks, this might actually be a great time to grab some deals.

I might even take advantage of it myself and upgrade a few of my Archons to stay competitive in Modern battles.

Especially these two would greatfully improve my current deck:

But for now holding off until everything settles with mini set/ rewards set /land cards. Its already hard to hold my DEC in my wallet.

As always, I’ll keep tracking my stats and sharing little insights when something interesting pops up in my data. Hope you enjoyed this post and maybe it gives you a reason to take another look at your own collection or the marketplace.

Until next time,

I really must try and get this working again, tried a while ago and my brain couldn’t comprehend!

Interesting insight on the drop in rebellion, surprised at CL though as I thought people were still picking it up for land.

Let me know when you run into problems or have any question.

I think it was problems with Windows Docker if I remember correctly, I’ll have a look when I get back from vacation

Interesting breakdown! It’s always good to keep an eye on market trends like this. The drop in card values might actually be a great chance to grab some good deals for future gains.

Thanks are you making any moves on the market?

Very interesting. Does this also show the invested value on cards in particular?

No, it does not know how much a certain cards has cost back in time.

What i do for myself and in the tool you can enter the amount $ you have put into the game (in portfolio).

Then a red line will be added in you portfolio for tracking e.g.:

If you have these values already stored into excel you can simply edit the csv for historical data.

I have no track of that whatsoever but good to know 😁
