🔥 Frontier Deep Dive – The Global Warning Ruleset

This week’s blog is all about a new ruleset that the team recently added to shake things up. I really love that Splinterlands starts introducing fresh rulesets again. It forces us to think differently and stops the meta from getting stale. One of the most recent ones is called Global Warning, and I’ve already had the chance to play with it in Frontier.

I noticed pretty quickly that not everyone fully understands how it works. Some players ignore it, others misjudge it, and a few might not even realize what’s going on in their matches.

So I thought, why not cover it here!
That way we can share some strategies, and maybe we’ll all get better together. On the flip side, maybe I’m just making my opponents smarter, and I’ll end up losing more battles because of this blog 🤣. It’s all part of the fun!

What is Global Warning?

The official description is simple:
All units have the Burning status effect applied at the start of combat.

Burning is a status effect that deals 2 damage at the beginning of each round until it is removed. It’s tied to the Incendiary ability, and the key thing to remember is that Burning can be cleansed.

So right away, we’ve got the first big clue about how to deal with this ruleset.

Tip 1 – Bring Cleanse

This one is obvious, but you’d be surprised how many players forget. Burning is removable. If you’ve got a unit with Cleanse, then Global Warning becomes a lot less scary.

Here’s an example match where Cleanse absolutely saved the day for me. My opponent went full force expecting the burn to chip away at my team, but the Cleanse effect wiped it out, and I cruised into victory.

One funny side note: writing this blog actually reminded me that Weaken is also a debuff that can be cleansed 🤦. I’d completely forgotten that in the heat of battle. It just shows how useful it can be to sit down, review matches, and even write about them. It forces you to look more closely at the mechanics.

Tip 2 – Don’t Count on Armor

One thing that caught me off guard at first was how Burning completely ignores armor. It goes straight to health, no matter how much armor your team has. So unlike other damage sources, you can’t stall it out with shielded tanks or buffing everyone with Protect.

That means if you skip Cleanse, you’re taking direct health damage every round whether you like it or not. The key tip here is simply be aware of this mechanic. Don’t waste picks thinking armor will save you, it won’t. Instead, focus on Cleanse, healing, or finding ways to finish battles faster before the burn effect does too much damage. Could do this to use magic which also goes directly to the health

My Favorite Lineups

So far, my go-to strategy in Frontier with this ruleset is running an Earth team. I pair up a healer with a Cleanse unit, which keeps my frontline alive much longer.

If Cleanse is not a option, then I usually decide going magic-heavy. Magic has the advantage of ignoring armor and going straight for the health. That way, it complementary with the burning, directly to health.

These two approach, either Cleanse or Magic, has worked well for me so far. But I’m sure the community will come up with even more creative counters as people get more practice with Global Warning.

Final Thoughts

I’ve got to give credit to the Splinterlands team for the name. “Global Warning” is a nice play on words, and it fits perfectly with the effect. It’s also a neat little nod to current world topics.

Overall, I think this ruleset is a great addition. It punishes lazy lineup building and rewards players who pay close attention to the smaller mechanics.
The fact that Cleanse exists as a counter keeps it from being overwhelming, while armor and magic give secondary ways to adapt.

That’s all from me this week! Now it’s your turn—drop your own strategies in the comments. Do you have a specific lineup you swear by? Maybe a sneaky counter I didn’t mention? Let’s figure this one out together and master Global Warning as a community.

As soon as I stumbled on this ruleset I dropped $100 on the cheapest painforge cards. Always have some dry powder ready for cheap buying opportunities when a new ruleset pops up.

Nice, definitely a good synergy for modern and wild indeed....

Now you got me start dreaming, dry powder.... does not happen often i can keep it in my pocket when its DEC.

Bring units that huge Health...
But trully cleanse here is the key.

Earth is actually often the last splinter i choose 😁

Indeed, I got comments on my last post of players not understanding Global Warming. I think the ability should not be present in Frontier to not confuse new players, and since there is only one team that can counter it.

That is true, the team needs to be caution with to much cards and rule set, in frontier, that can become quickly overwhelming for new players.

Been playing with this lineup too on this ruleset. Currently they are the only pair that has the highest chance of winning. Same as with the Noxious Fume ruleset. Nice article as always. Vonak !BBH !PIZZA !LOLZ

The word queue is ironic.
It's just q with a bunch of silent letters waiting in line.
