Javelin Stone Gaze

Here's a timelapse video of the art I recently made titled Javelin Stone Gaze

image.png

This drawing is inspired by the Javelin Thrower who comes from a tribe of savage female warriors. They made a reputation for themselves wearing the skins of reptiles they had slain.

The Javelin thrower is part of the earth decks selection of ranged monsters. At max level it has 4 damage, 6 speed, 0 armor and 6 health. From level 1 it has the Piercing ability which allows it to inflict damage to enemy health should the damage exceed target monsters armor points. From level 5 this monster gains the dodge ability which allows it to increase evasion from ranged and melee attacks.

This illustration is also inspired by a DOTA 2 hero called Medussa. If you are familiar with the game you would know that the ultimate skill is called Stone Gaze which stuns enemy heroes directly facing her. Very fitting for its mythology where anyone who stares at the Gorgon's eyes will be petrified.

Let's have a look at some details on how this digital art was made.

  • I use an Ipad Pro and Apple Pencil 2 for my devices.
  • I first start with some guide lines to help me with placement of the facial features like the eyes, nose, mouth ears etc.

image.png

  • I would then proceed into drawing sketches on a different layer while maintaining visibility on my initial layer where the guides are placed.

image.png

  • Next is to add solid outlines, tracing the original sketch.

  • Color is applied next, using different shades of green here to have that contrast and 3d look.

image.png

  • Effects of shadows and light was also done together with the glowing eyes of the Javelin thrower.
