Battle Mage Secrets Challenge - Fog of War

in Splinterlands17 days ago (edited)

Hello fellow Splinterlands fans, today we have another Battle Mage Secrets Challenge and I would like to participate once again!

In this week’s Challenge, we have the Fog Of War ruleset.

Fog of War

All units lose the Sneak, Snipe, and Opportunity abilities.

I like this ruleset very much for the simple reason that I don’t have to worry about protecting my midfield and backline (except for Scattershot).

Fog Of War is an easy ruleset to prepare for, so as usual, paying attention to the other rulesets is important. Normally, it suffices to load your bases with magic monsters, as melee cannot attack from beyond the frontline and range has the danger of hitting shield. The harder the hitters the more damage your little darlings inflict. It is also important to consider speed. It is pretty useless to have hard hitters in your team if they are slow and get slaughtered by the enemy first.

I have a battle to show you today that illustrates the effectiveness of a magic team and considering speed. What is decisive in this feature battle, though, are the abilities I chose in anticipation of what kind of team my opponent would choose: I figured that my opponent would field an Obsidian magic team, therefore I place 2 Magic Reflect monsters in first and second position. As you will see, it did the trick to bring down the opposition.

The battle we are looking at today is a mid mana Life battle with the following rulesets: Lost Legendaries, Are You Not Entertained?, and Fog of War. The mana cap is 27 and all splinters except Death are available.

Here is the team I put together:

Grandmaster Rathe is a great summoner to select when anticipating a enemy magic team. He provides +1 shield and Void Armour, which means that the whole team will be shielded with Void Armour to boost defensive capabilities.

Pelacor Conjurer is fast, has the added speed differential of Flying, Holy Protection and Magic Reflect. You will not find a better 2 mana defensive tank anywhere else. In a mid low/mana battle he is great to put at the front and save mana for other monsters, including a backup tank. He is also strategically placed here to defend against magic attack.

Blinding Reflector cannot shoot from the second position but is also strategically placed to provide Magic Reflect against an anticipated Obsidian enemy lineup with plenty of shield on top. he will defend well.

Dax Paragon is another great 2 mana card. He brings Affliction to the table which will cause the enemy target a 50% chance not to be healed in that round.

Next comes Temporal Master: His job is to offload a 6 magic hit every second round. If he is able to shoot at least twice, his contribution to the battle will be significant.

Djinn Renova is one of my favourite reward cards. She provides Strengthen and Triage, but I mostly appreciate her for her magic power, which is a bit thin in the Life team.

Time Mage is a great little card. She is fast, cheap and delivers a 2 magic payload. Most of all, she provides Slow to manipulate the enemy's speed.

Now that the team is in the arena, with an anti-Obsidian strategy in mind, let's check out the battle: And who walks in? Obsidian! There is also a Magic Reflect monster in first enemy position, but Failed Summoner is a bit outdated and not so strong a foe nowadays.

ROUND ONE

Round 1 started quickly with Time Mage shooting first and getting reflected. The came Regal Peryton, who was reduced to 4 health with Magic Reflect. Renova then had her turn to attack the Failed Summoner, who got a double heal. Nothing else worth mentioning happened here.

ROUND TWO

Round 2 began in a similar fashion and the Failed Summoner lost the fight. One down. This brought that silly cube to the front. He had Heal and two healers backing which would be hard to get through, or so I thought. Temporal Master offloaded 6 magic damage and Dax delivered Affliction. That fixed that. My beloved Pelacor Conjurer then had to go and brought Blinding Reflector to the front. He got hit, answered with Magic Reflect and one healer was wiped out. Two down.

ROUND THREE

Round 3 began again with Time Mage, followed by an attack on Blinding Reflector, which wiped out the bird. Three down. The second enemy healed went for the Blinder and lost, too. Four down. There were only the cube and the chicken left to fend for themselves. The neighbour luckily came over at that moment with some beers under his arm so we left a boring battle end to its own devices.

HEROIN OF THE DAY

TIME MAGE

The Heroin of the Day Award goes to Time Mage, cause she's cute. The overall success of the team was due to a collective effort on the one had and the Magic Reflect strategy on the other, which wiped out all magic enemy monsters one by one and left the Gelatinous cube and that useless chicken looking pretty silly.

WHAT IS SPLINTERLANDS?

Splinterlands is an autobattle digital card game on the Hive blockchain. The playing cards are NFTs, therefore they belong to you and you can trade, transfer or delegate them as you please. All you need to move cards and other ingame assets around is a Hive Keychain login. There are three types of battles you can play: ranked battles, brawls and tournaments. Every battle you win brings rewards, including SPS and/or loot chests containing cards, potions, packs and merits. The ingame currency is DEC and the governance token is SPS. For gladiator packs you need to earn merits through brawls and loot chests. Tournaments can bring you stacks of SPS if you play well. There are several third party card markets, including Peakmonsters.com and the best places to learn to play are PeakD and YouTube.
