I have been playing Splinterlands for years now but I haven’t really looked at the new Rebellion cards and the way Modern Ranked play has changed as a result. I keep hearing that the Rewards are better in Modern but my own playing deck that I use for Brawls is stacked with Beta and Untamed cards so I’ve left Modern alone until now because I can’t use them there. However, I am curious and I like to tinker so I’ve decided to conduct a bit of an experiment and rent some cards specifically to try out Modern Ranked.

I have a dormant account that I have used on and off for a while to support my Guild and it DOES have a few Soulbound Chaos and Gladius cards on it that will no doubt help, but otherwise I am renting everything that I need. First order of business was to rent some SPS and I went for 25K over 7 days at 0.005 DEC per SPS per day. With the nominal listing fee that’s a cost of 876 DEC off the bat and my Glint Boost has started off the experiment at x20.
Once I secured some SPS I’ve then budgeted 2,000 DEC for 2 rental stints of 2 days each. Each rental stint will give me a fully charged 50 Energy plus 48 recharging over the 2 days, so I’m expecting to get about 196 games in over the course of this week at a total cost of just (2000 x 2) + 876 = 4876 DEC. That’s Under $5 USD for a good test of Modern Ranked which makes this an experiment that anyone could try out themselves cheaply.
The first thing that I noticed when renting cards for Modern is that the Chaos cards are super cheap compared to the new Rebellion ones. When renting I normally choose MAX card level on PeakMonsters and then sort the options by Best Price to pick up all the cheapest cards first. As it’s turned out on my first rental stint I haven’t rented a single Rebellion card because the price jump between the editions is so severe. The rough amounts I’ve spent on each splinter in DEC is Fire 130, Water 145, Earth 130, Life 155, Death 195, Dragon 125 and Neutral 120. My Life and Death splinters are a bit higher because I use Grandmaster Rathe and Astral Entity so it’s worth spending a bit more on those splinters to support the stronger Summoners as they will be my preferred choices in matches when the Mana Limit is higher.
So far I’ve played about 24 games and have blasted my way up through the Novice and Bronze tiers to hit Silver. My rented deck is way overpowered for these low tiers so this is no great achievement, but I am hoping to get comfortably up into Gold tier on this first rental stint. It’ll be the 2nd rental stint where I’ll max out my rank somewhere and be able to make a reasonable assessment of what the rewards are really like. Wish me luck and I’ll see you on the battlefield!
That's interesting that the cost of renting Rebellion is so much higher, which would reflect the cost of buying too. Quite a few people have said that having Rebellion cards in modern has definitely been the game changer to gaining more wins from just having CL. I have just a few cards that I purchased at bronze level or gained from the few packs I've bought. There's no denying that they helped, but I still only get to silver 3 with them.
I'm looking forward to hearing your verdict. Best of luck!
Thanks. I've made it to Silver I today but am starting to struggle a bit. There are a few Rebellion cards that seem to be consistently popping up now.
Awesome that you made it to silver hope you can make it to gold rank and make some profit from your experiment
Interesting post, I am curious about your results, as I am a "Wild" player, my cards are mostly "Alpha, Beta and Untamed", but, I could afford to rent some "Chaos" to venture to play in "Modern and test how good the rewards are.
I look forward to the 2nd part. Good post.
Thanks. I'll make another post in a few days when I've collected all the data.
Good luck and I will follow your experiment and future evaluations with interest as you advance in the gold leagues!

Impressive skill in the arena

Rental income has went in the toilet lately. It's quite depressing. I am starting to think I need to pull it, but I don't want to give up pretty much the only source of income that is left in Splinterlands.
Good luck !! ,and looking forward to your next instalment
Very interesting! I ask myself if it'll be worth it...
I have seen a lot of people posting that they don't like the new reward system which has caused people to stop playing the game, so the team should reconsider their decision.
